THE FILIPINO (Part 2 of a Series)

The trouble is that most Filipinos, unlike others, find it rather impossible to laugh at themselves and instead derive pleasure in laughing at the misfortune of others, which the dictionary defines as “scha-den-freu-de.”

“Pangit,” a Filipino will call out to a friend, chuckling as he does so, and yet he too has a face only a mother can love.

Slapstick is the Filipino’s kind of comedy, like a disabled person slipping on a banana peel, or a fat fellow ripping them back of his pants while doing bending exercises.

That does not seem to be the case with the women, I am happy to say.

Women do not hastily ridicule any of their own, even one whose physical shortcomings could only get her thrown into the river as food for the crocodiles, although a reckless few dare join beauty contests, foolishly ignoring what the mirror tells them.

No other nationality in the world laughs longest and loudest than the Filipino, perhaps because—even more than his own Christian faith—it is laughter that eases the burden in his ever suffering soul.

Laughter alas, is but a band aid remedy, and does not really drive away the pain, but for a brief moment at least, the ache is forgotten.
The secret is to keep on laughing and stretch each happy moment to kingdom come, if you can.

Drinking can make one forget, too, but without the laughter, the wound bleeds even more.

Heaven is an American salary, a Chinese cook, an English house, and a Japanese wife.

Hell is defined as having a Chinese salary, an English cook, a Japanese house, and an American wife.

The girl that I marry will have to be;
As soft and as pink as a nursery...

The girl I call my own;
Will wear satins and laces and smell of cologne...

Her nails will be polished and, in her hair;
She'll wear a gardenia and I'll be there.

'stead of flittin', I'll be sittin'
Next to her and she'll purr like a kitten

A doll I can carry, the girl that I marry must be...

... won't let me post if I write in Tagalog or Ilocano. There must be a automatic censor/sensor that rejects posts when it is written in the vernacular It breaks my heart when I cannot exercise the language of my heart

...The fundamental things apply
As time goes by.

And when two lovers kiss
They still say "I love you"
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by.

Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man, and man must have his mate
That no one can deny.

It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by.

*it has been awhile since I was last active. I still miss the science of the flirt !

If you could read my mind, love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
'Bout a ghost from a wishing well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as I am a ghost, you can't see

If I could read your mind, love
What a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind the drugstore sells
When you reach the part where the heartaches come
The hero would be me
But heroes often fail
And you won't read that book again
Because the ending's just too hard to take

I'd walk away like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three way script
Enter number two, a movie queen to play the scene
Of bringing all the good things out in me
But for now, love, let's be real

I never thought I could act this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back

But stories always end
And if you read between the lines
You'll know that I'm just trying to understand
The feelings that you lack

I never thought I could feel this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feeling's gone
And I just can't get it back...
