Have you heard Julie Andrews' song in the movie The Sound of Music titled My Favorite things? Well none of those she mentioned in the song where my favorite but some lyrics of the song stuck in me since I heard it

"When the bites, when the bee stings, when I'm feeling sad.
I simply remember my favorite things and then I don't feel so bad."

Well when I was young it does work , I just remember and sing along to my favorite songs then I don't feel so bad. Now that I'm older when I think of my favorite things it makes me feel bad.

I think that's the outcome of being mature, we lose the imagination, we always want everything in black and white, the here and now. That is the result of our experience, learning, disappointments and pain.

So now that we no longer believe in fairytales and fantasies what could we possibly think of that will help us when feeling bad? To me definitely my funny experiences, some funny people I met , some embarrassing moments in the past. Sometimes I get a bit naughty and I think of what if's. But most of all thinking of how lucky I am in many ways, counting my blessings makes me feel better.

Songs of course still make me feel better even if I can't sing but some songs can make me feel worse.

My all time favorite songs:
Bob Marley's " Don't worry be happy."
Bruno Mars' "You can count on me"
Ben King's " Stand by me."

So tell me, what do you do when you're feeling sad?
What songs make you feel better or bad?

One reason I emigrated from Philippines is my passion for travel. Philippines passport holders are required to get a visa in order to enter most countries, there are only few countries that allows Filipino in without a visa. With the passport I have now I can visit many country without visa required but the irony of it now, is that all I want to travel to is the Philippines. Truly we can't see the chair we are seated until we leave the seat.

Philippines is such a beautiful country made up of several islands. There are so many things to do and places to go and of course Filipinos are happy, fun, easy to get along with, hospitable and friendly. I will not argue that there are many other countries that may be better in some ways but the beauty of the Philippines is not far behind.

Despite my passion for travelling it has become my priority to see people first after losing a loved one. See people first before places because places are likely to be there longer if not forever but a person maybe gone before you get to see them.

I read something today that inspired me to write this blog so I can share it with you. It is an article by Alex Green titled "Three words that will change your life".It is very inspiring. The author talked about the wisdom o a certain Fleet Mogull a prisoner for drug trafficking later became PhD in Psychology, priest, motivational speaker and more. It's a bit long to write all about it here so I will make it short before I bore you to bits. You can find out more details via google.

Mogull believes we create everything what’s happening in our lives, good and bad. Many of us blame others or rambles about the past for our failures, I think it is easier that way , to play victim rather than saying it's my fault. Blaming ourselves is of course a negative attitude that will fail us more and the great enemy of success and happiness are negative emotions. Fear, self-pity, envy, jealousy and anger hold us back. The four root causes of these negative emotions are justification, rationalization, blaming and poor self esteem. To be happy therefore is to attack the cause from the roots and according to the article the antidote to these negative emotions are the 3 simple words: I AM RESPONSIBLE.

It means you are responsible to your own thoughts, impulses, feelings and actions. You are accountable for the consequences they bring and the impact they have on others. You should take pride and honor in ownership of your actions. It creates freedom and control. It gives meaning to life.
Self-reliance is the great source of personal power. We create ourselves, shape our identity and determine the course of our lives by what we are willing to take responsibility for.

I think many will argue but this is only in relation to happiness and success of an individual. There are I guess exception to the rules but using that exception is also a way of rationalization, right? So we can definitely make changes in our lives and solve our problems starting with these 3 little words: I AM RESPONSIBLE , to ourselves of course.

ARE YOU RESPONSIBLE?

I was a bit bored today so I went on IM just to have someone to chat to. I have chatted with a guy I have chatted before who was looking for an on-line lover. We chatted for maybe 30 minutes. During our convo he said that FFF is an adult site. So I queried further what he meant by adult site, if he meant adult s__ site. He said yes. You can probably guess what he meant by that. I was disappointed because to me FFF is not what he said it is. To me it's a true friend finder with it's literal meaning. I have made real friends here and met real people. I totally disagree with what he believed this site is. He has been a long time member. He was from the US.

What made me dismiss his opinion is his contradictory statements. He said mostly are there for naughty chats but when I asked him if he has had any lover he said he had one long time ago but she stopped. If this is that site that he believed it is, then he should have had more than one lover. Then I told him that he must have had an adult encounter each time he log in. He said he don't log in that often so meaning he doesn't have adult encounter each time. So I told him that if he doesn't log in that often then there should be higher percentage of adult site encounter. He said sometimes then said mostly. Sometimes can't be most times.

Oh well that's his opinion. Now it is clearer to me why some men behave like that on chat because they expect an adult adventure. You know what I mean right? Sorry I have a different view of FFF so if you are looking for adult adventure with me bugger off. Men beware; from what I have seen not all women handle you chat with on line are real women. Few are men pretending to be women and give you the chat you want specially if they chat super x rated.

So to all reading this post, let me ask you, what is FFF to you?

We all want the best in life.
Maybe the best husband or wife.
The best car that travels far.
Live a life like shining star.

The best we want is not what we always get
Truly even no matter how hard we bet
There's one best waiting for us to choose.
Not to fill in someone else's shoes.

Only you can decide for yourself.
It can not be pick from any shelf
Once chosen it's hard to part
Will be with you no matter what

I hope we choose what is this best
Try to guess and be my guest
What's best for you may not for me
Can you tell me what could it be?

The traffic fun

Been away on holiday/business to Philippines for three weeks. A bit disappointing because I did not get to meet some people I was supposed to meet and did not get to go to places I wanted to see and did not get to do some of the things I wanted to do. But nonetheless it was generally a fruitful and meaningful trip.

One of the highlights is that I was able to visit my dad's grave. It was a guilt trip for me. I was ambivalent about going because I did not visit him when he was still alive. I asked myself what's the point? Well as a christian I was able to pay him respect and prayed for him, forgave him and forgave myself.

Secondly I was able to see for myself what the real situation is like in the Philippines. Yes there is more traffic, more pollution but what makes the situation worse is how you react to it. One time it took us over an hour to go from City of Dreams to Resorts World but because there were 4 of us in the taxi we just made the most of it, talking, laughing, singing, joking. The taxi driver is so mad but we were able to encouraged him to join us in making it fun despite of the traffic situation. It turned out to be a non-stop laughing in the middle of the traffic. You can't beat that. The taxi driver was even happier when we gave him 3 times as much as what his meter said.

Yes we can choose to be happy whatever the situation is. Right?

The Chicken Man

I heard this story from one of Les Brown's video and it touched me so much that I can't help but share it. Hoping that some people may learn from it. For details and more inspiration you can find it on google.

The story is about a man who everybody knows as chicken man. He has a feather on his hat , a toy chicken on top of his car. He drives around his car and when he get out he carries 2 dolls and a picture of a woman. When people say something to him or came near him he makes the sound of a chicken. People laugh at him. They did know his story.

Chicken man story started when he woke up one morning around 3:00 am and his house was on fire, he panicked, got out of the window and left quickly. When he got out he heard his wife and screaming for help. He ran back to the door but the flame was too big and he couldn't get in. He was desperate and frantic but unable to do anything. Then the screaming and crying stopped.

His brother in-law came and grabbed him, started beating him while saying "you chicken, why did you not saved my sister and my nieces? YOU'RE CHICKEN, YOU'RE CHICKEN!" When people came and asked him "are you alright?" Chicken man looked at them and started making the chicken noise.

He never ever able to overcome the tragedy.

We all react differently to tragedies , some temporarily but others permanently . Before we judge anyone, let's find out their stories first. Don't let tragedy destroy lives but instead build unto it. If you're facing a challenge don't stop, continue to move.

Running away doesn't make you a chicken but staying stuck with your tragedy or your bad habits or unproductive self makes you a chicken man.

My tatang (father) passed away the other day and we are very saddened. Our relationship with him is not typical, he has a serious gambling problem. We hardly spend time with him as we were growing up, he hardly know my and never present in any important occasions in our lives except for my wedding. He is the least ideal father but we love him anyway and I’m sure he love us too albeit he did not show it nor made us feel he did. He never hurt us intentionally either.

I so wanted him to be part of my life and of my but it did not seem like that from his side. I was also hesitant because of his gambling problem, I was worried that he will just keep asking for money if I let him be part of me. I could have shown him love anyway. I wish I made a conscious decision to see him with my when we go to Philippines instead of him coming to us, although to ask for money. He invited us before to visit his place with his other family but I never went, I did not even bother getting his address.

That chance is lost, now that he is gone. One thing I learned from this is; “If you love someone, show the love while you have the chance. Even if it doesn’t look like you don’t get the love back, show the love anyway. You don’t want to have the regrets later and say I wished I have shown you my love.”

Looking back, remembering his smiles and laughter when he comes to our home back then I know in my own little way I was able to show him some love. I wanted to show him more but that chance is gone now but I will keep this lesson in mind and share it to others.

Show the love while you can, even if you don’t get the love back the way you expect.

Love is never a waste, love not shown is.

For those who receive or felt love if you can't reciprocate at least acknowledge while you still can.

Cancer

Talking about cancer, a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body. The cancer cells are useless to the body and may spread to other part or metastasize. If not controlled they may cause suffering and eventually death.

There are also what we call emotional cancer, which are uncontrolled negative emotions. I have witnessed many conflicts that started with this negative emotions. We see them everyday, at home, at work, at school even in chat rooms. I can't help but share this 5 metastasizing cancer by Stephen Covey.

The 5 metastasizing emotional cancers:

1. CRITICIZING
2. COMPLAINING
3. COMPARING
4. COMPETING
5. CONTENDING

If these negative emotions are not controlled they will cause undue suffering and ruin our lives particularly our relationship. If we want to be emotionally healthy avoid these 5C. Avoid them by not doing them and not reacting negatively to them.

Now I encourage to do an emotional self examination, if you have any sign that you have excess of any of this 5C in your life get rid of them quickly and you will have emotional health and content. People who have excess of these are also known as conceited.

No one needs these UNCONTROLLED negative emotions or emotional cancer so get rid of them.

and I fell in love.

( Background music: "When I fall in Love")

This man is 80+ years old with Alzheimer's disease and Dementia. He was brought in by ambulance because according to his wife he has chest pains. The man , because of his Alzheimer's never complained of any pain, in fact he was very pleasant and seem to be content when he was admitted to the coronary care. Also he doesn't recognize anyone other than his wife and he never wanted her out of his sight. If he is asked of something he pass the question to his wife.

In the emergency department he was found to be having a major heart attack. It was a major one to the point that the doctors asked his family if they want resuscitation just in case. Despite that, there was no evidence of pain in him, there is some difficulty in moving around because he is a bit unsteady but we can still see him as comfortable, content and happy. Even though he never complained of any pain the wife knew there was something wrong so she rang the ambulance.

There are some things here that amazed me so much. One is that there is this advantage of having Alzheimer or dementia because we will forget about any pain or any problem, totally. The other thing is, despite him forgetting everything he never forgot his wife. The wife also amazed me because she knew that he had the pain as if like she almost felt it herself and her superb dedication to him. They are truly like one body.

I so fell in love with this couple. They are truly adorable.

Don't you agree or is it just the hopeless romantic in me?
