Elegy for a Tree

I stand at your foot and weep
My dear friend, I cannot sleep
It breaks my heart that I've been weak
In my hands, refuge you could not seek

You sheltered us from the rain
Waved your hands to ease our pain
And yet when you cried for the life in you
Cowardly, there we stood in this purlieu

Men, are we not the keepers of the land
that God has entrusted to our care and hand?
Why today have we struck a blow so heartlessly
On this dear friend.. this old and blameless tree.

I weep for you my dear friend
And for myself at this bitter end
To the world that closes its eyes, hands and ears
The life you took, has now God’s tears.

In the end, if you still can’t see
Nature will take its course on thee
And unless we learn to save the trees
Many a men will meet their tragedies

Keeper of my secrets
Bearer of my conquests
You will always live in my memory
RIP

A good expression of your sorrow. I just wonder why it couldn't be saved? Private or public property? In my town only mother nature decides which trees go.

I'm a senior citizen . Don't expect me to remember anything

That is a beautiful tree I can feel you but sometimes we have to remove somethings in our lives even people, to prevent something that can be potentially harmful or dangerous, even if it hurts us to let them go.Hope it went for a good reason and good use. Buti pa yung tree kahit panggatong pwede ang tao hinde. Lalim ng hugot? LOL

Okay,,we can save a tree by not using too much paper products 😜😜 jokingly aside, if one must cut a tree, they should replace it with 2. Otherwise, nothing will protect us against floods. Isn't it beautiful to have beautiful green trees in the neighborhood? Trees provide us with food, shelter and cool environment.

Thank you all of you for your comments and sympathies. The tree was there long before I was born and as I child, it was my playmate... as a grown up, my asylum. It holds all secrets of my life.. all my past loves.. and even my phone conversations with Talong.. lol (sa ilalim ng punong to malakas ang signal.. lol).

The tree was cut down so a building could be erected in the private vacant lot. I don't know if that is good or bad.. but for me it is sad. It would be very hard to replace this tree as it is more than a hundred years old. DENR gave its approval.. mother nature would not dare put it down... its a balete tree.. a mystical tree.
