How Lucky we are.

It feels like it’s the end of the world over trivial things, for some of us. We feel like ending it all because of the hardship we go through. We cry ourselves to sleep because we did not get what we were hoping for. We are saddened just because we have no one to talk to or feel like we are ignored. We pity ourselves because we can’t eat our favorite food. We feel left behind because we can’t to . We feel unloved just because we didn’t get the treatment we expect. We post on facebook because we long for attention and sympathy . We are looking for someone to listen to our complaints and to have validation.
We are so unhappy over many things that we do not have or can not have. Yes, I am guilty of these emotions and guilty of lack of gratitude sometimes. What we often forget is that the lack of gratitude makes us unhappy. We also forget that happiness is a choice or we refuse to acknowledge that it is. We believe that somebody brought this misery into our lives and hope that someone can make us happy again. If you are feeling unhappy or miserable, stop for a moment, look around you and observe these people on the streets, hopefully this will create a sense of gratitude.

I had the opportunity to work for and learn about the lives of some refugees. I also had the opportunity to watch a documentary about them. It broke my heart knowing about their plights but most of all it opened my eyes more, on how lucky we are. Firstly we are lucky to be alive, healthy , with full mental and physical capability. Second we have family and friends, a home and a country. Many of these refugees have lost their loved ones, their home, country, have become physically disabled and eventually suffered mental illness. They have been abused, lost their freedom and lost their voice, no one listens to them. No phone, no internet, no TV and not even food or drink. There is no time for friendship, no reason to smile , they basically have nothing other than hope. I feel ill just imagining myself in their situation.
Next time we feel unhappy or miserable think about the plight of these refugees. Think about the freedom we have and remember that we can choose to be happy. Think about how lucky we are and be grateful for what we have. Afterall gratefulness is the key to happiness.

Yes isn't that unfortunate? Siguro mamatay na akong ganito. I am not as lucky as the others and maybe that will make some people happy, seeing others miserable and lonely.
