The Four Agreements

THE FOUR AGREEMENTS

1. BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD

Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2. DON'T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY

Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.

3. DONT MAKE ASSUMPTIONS

Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4. ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST

Your best is going to change from moment to moment, it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you will avoid self-judgement, self-abuse and regret.

"Your past does not determine your future unless you allow it. What counts is committing to a course of action that will carry you into a new tomorrow." Is your life defined by REASONS or RESULTS?

Quoting Passionate1932: "One does what one considers right as he sees based on his analysis and standing ground to uphold, respecting opposite views but allowing to influence to reverse, is great principle to follow, since he is the one to face the impact and consequences of his decision"..

I'd say, to each his/her own. For as long as one doesn't hurt the other deliberately with his/her actions or words, s/he can go ahead and say or do whatever s/he thinks is best for him/her.

Quoting Passionate1932:

"Making assumptions on issues concering life mostly bring wrong results in avoidable conflicts. Straightforward questions for answers, though sometimes embarassing sets matters straight. However some people taking such affronts may tend to distance themselves temporarily unless they are true friends."

True friends are such, because they can take whatever the other says without fear of retaliation. Being straightforward is one thing, being blunt and tactless is another, and in reality, the way we say things really matter to whom we address the issues...Some people are just way too sensitive to take matters in their hands...True friends can say whatever they wanna say..and yet, remain as friends..

Personally speaking, my past does not determine my future. However, the lessons that I've learned from them will definitely guide me through it. I cannot be doing the same mistakes again, for heaven's sake.

My own life is defined by both reasons and results. It is the outcome of my past experiences, and will be guided by right reasoning for as long as I can still differentiate what is wrong and what is right, by choice.

i have always maintained DEE that one must be careful with what comes out of the mouth for it is whats usually contained in the heart. If we want a world free from hatred, we must start with ourselves and how we conduct ourselves when we are with other people.

Nothing is gained with harsh and hurtful words, but a compassionate word or two lifts the spirits of a person feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders.

People also make wrong moves in life only coz of assumptions made, which are farthest from the truth. If an option is given for one to ask more about a topic or an idea, grab it. It may make a world of difference if one can get the true meaning of something.

I will not allow my past to determine my future.. but i will learn all the lessons in life i have gone through. They will be tools, but, just that, tools...
we all make mistakes in life, wrong moves, wrong turns, bad decisions... no one is exempted from that. That is why there are detours to take..they were made simply for that purpose..

Well said, Marie..I guess, we have the same stand on this one. It is just very sad that people misunderstand us at times..I am not perfect..I may pick up the wrong signals sent, but not for so long...I will realize in due time the true significance of the message sent. But, then again, sometimes, mankind choose to believe what seems to be favorable to them. In that case, I try, not to be very hopeful...Like I said, for as long as I can still differentiate my left from my right, I should be okay...

Thanks for sharing your ideas on this, Marie..I love you friend.

you are right there Jack, only if mankind stop being judgemental, then, it should be okay...Sometimes, people don't even give us a chance to prove our worth..It's just like being sentenced without being given a fair trial...
