Mamma Meryl Bravo Mia!

Despite the tight schedule, I was able to find time to drop by Mega Mall to take a break and watch a Meryl Streep movie. I always try not to miss a movie of my favorite performer. The last Meryl movie I saw was entitled “Evening” an under rated movie without much media hype but also featured the likes of Vanessa Redgrave and Glenn Close, both brilliant actresses in their own right. Meryl this time played an aging widow who visited her old friend Vanessa, very sick and lying on her soon deathbed. It was such a short role but her drama encounter with Miss Redgrave was remarkable. Before “Evening” there was “The Devil Wears Prada”
In which Ms. Meryl played a bitchy and feisty Editor of a prestigious Fashion Magazine, and in which she was again nominated for the best performance by an actress in a lead role.

Mamma Mia is a musical and based on the songs of the popular 70’s Swedish band Abba. In this movie, Meryl created more impact among her fans. Not only in acting was she excellent, she was also convincing while crooning many songs of Abba. Meryl is noted more of a dramatic performer but not much about her singing talent was noticed. I like the part where she sang “The Winner Takes It All” and in chorus with the Greek women for “Dancing Queen” As the title of the movie suggested, Meryl played the mother of a soon to be married confused trying to figure out who her real father was. She wanted her true father to her to the altar giving her away to her future husband.

The movie is basically conceptualized to be a 70’s musical but set on the present scenario displaying the local color of a panoramic and remote fishing village somewhere in the island of Greece. The stars of the movie belonged to the Flower Power generations most notables among them are Meryl, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Ms. Baransky. It was more of reminiscing those Hippie days when Meryl was being romanced by her suitors, Pierce, Colin and another actor I could not recall the name. I belonged to the 70’s genre and I was so much amused, I could easily relate to the Abba songs. Besides that, Meryl Streep has been displaying her brilliant talent as a budding performer, which started in the 70’s and in such movies as the Deer Hunter, Julia, Kramer vs. Kramer and the TV series Holocaust.

I just could not hide my admiration for Ms. Meryl specially after seeing Mamma Mia! Again for her MAMMA MERLY BRAVO MIA!
