What man Thinks?

Hi! I am dating very nice Philipino man, we know each for more than a year, but start to go out only three month ago. He is 40 years old, have never been married or been in long commitment. He doesn't talk much about his past life or relationships. He mention to me once he is "scared of commitment, but wants to have a family". I like the guy very much, but not sure what he think about our frendship; somehow we never talk about "us", it is seems to me he doesn't like this type of conversations and try to avoid them. I don't know what to do, how can find out is the guy have any feelings towards to me? Is he serious about us. Should I talk to him or just live everything as it is? I have been divorsed before, it was very painful I don't want to make a mistake again. Is it anyone have been in similas situation, please help!
