Jun 22, 2008 9:41 pm 325 Views | | Moving to New Jersey / New York during a recession, is like going inside Disneyland, with only 20 bucks in your pocket.
You can enjoy the ambience, but you can't go for the rides. Not just yet.

| Advantages of Living In America |
Jun 17, 2008 3:41 pm 397 Views | | 1. Gorgeous New Yorkers like Asian women.
2. You learn to adapt to different people and handle life's curveballs better.
3. You learn to live by the clock. No excuse for being late. Time management is a must.
4. You learn to plan for the future and stick to your plans. You learn to dream and go for your dreams.
5. They assume you have your own car. If not, you have to walk blocks and blocks. Very good for the health. Makes you more buff. And you get to see so many pretty things along the way. Or you can learn to work the subway. That, in itself, is lotsa fun. If you're passionate about exploring places and seeing new sights.
6. You learn to be more health conscious. You jog. You enroll in Sports Clubs. You eat veggies more. You begin to play some sports and enjoy some sports.
7. You learn the value of money. Coz everything is expensive, and you've worked real hard for every penny.
8. You can't take anyone or anything for granted. You gotta cherish what you have and develop new bonds.
9. Your family and friends become more precious.
10. If you work real hard, you can achieve most anything you set your eyes on. Anything is possible. The key is, you gotta work real hard. Nothing's easy.
11. You learn to take care of your own stuff. Do your own laundry. Take care of your kids' needs. Train them to be self-sufficient. Train them to have skills and tools to face the world. Things you take for granted in a gentler world.
12. When you open the faucet, you have warm water. I've been in an area in the Phils where I needed to fetch water from the artesian well at 3am. And to heat the water over the stove or an open fire. This is an extreme though. Not every Filipino has that difficulty with water supply. But you get my drift.
13. Lemme celebrate that one more time, in America, you got hot water in the faucet any time. U can enjoy a warm shower anytime of the day. And I shower atleast six times a day here. lol. It is very relaxing. Every time I open the faucet, I thank God and I say: God bless America!
14. Rules and laws are strictly adhered to. No cash gifts for misdemeanors. People have to tow the line. There is more discipline.
15. People generally mind their own business. Except if you live in a Filipino community. Hehehe. They can get very nosy.

| Advantages of Living in the Philippines: |
Jun 17, 2008 3:22 pm 503 Views | | 1. You can hire a nanny to take care of your kids; a cook; a housekeeper; a laundry lady; an all-around maid. All for a minimal fee.
2. Having someone else to do the menial work, you have more time to rest and pursue other activities that may lengthen your life. You can actually rest, during your day-off. And you have a day-off. You don't have to get a second job just to make ends meet.
3. There are atleast six modes of transportation, readily available at any time. The jeepney, the bus, the tricycle, the sidecar, the cab, and car.
4. You don't have to ride a subway everyday to go to work or get somewhere. I swear, all that underground travel, cooped up with other blank and/or mean-looking strangers, has got to have an effect on human beings' mental health.
5. Everything that is available in the US, all the first rate items and amenities, and the smallest tools and gadgets, they are all available in the Philippines. At a very low cost. But not everything that's available in the Philippines can be found in America. Not even in Asian stores.
6. School kids graduate from elementary at Grade 6. Then they start high school. In America, they will go through Grades 7 and 8, before they can start with High School.
7. College is way more affordable in the Philippines. Filipino parents usually pay for their kids' college, and can afford it. In America, college is incredibly expensive. There may be grants and financial aid, but realistically, most people who have the guts and determination to go thru college, will still have years and years to pay for their college education after graduation. It's not pretty.
8. There may be unpleasant people in the Phils., but you will only have to deal with fellow Filipinos, and you know how to interact with them.
In America, you will have to deal with unschooled people of different races, whose idea of feeling good about themselves is to put people of other races down, particularly Filipinos. You gotta deal with people of other races who treat their own kind nicely, then treat you like second class citizens. You gotta deal with your own kind who think they are better than you.
9. You can give a cash gift to traffic cops when u break a traffic rule. lolz
10. You only have to deal with rainy and sunny weather.
11. There are so many beautiful, smart, and sexy women in the Philippines. And there aren't much attractive and single guys. The attractive ones are usually playboys, taken, or gay. Many other guys are not attractive. Sorry.
This is an advantage for guys. Not for the ladies.
12. Children are basically raised to be respectful towards elders.
13. Families generally help each other.
14. Services are not expensive. Spas, salons, dermatologists, abound and are affordable. You can have a manicure for just PhP50 (around US$1.25).
15. Malls and moviehouses are first class. Most moviehouses in NY look like cinema hauses in Makati 20 yrs ago. The malls in NY won't hold a candle to Trinoma, Ayala, or SM malls in the Phils.
16. Philippine cellphones and their features rock!!! American cellphone limitations sak!!!
17. PhP2,000 worth of grocery items can go a long way. US$50 worth of groceries is just one bagful.
18. Living in the Philippines is a gentle existence. It may be financially tough at times, but it is a happy place to live in.
These are my opinions, ofcourse. To each his/her own opinions and experiences.
Sorry, I am so homesick. Hope you understand.

| I Stand Corrected |
Jun 10, 2008 6:41 am 402 Views | | Everytime I find an unpleasant conclusion, I go out of my way to find something positive about it, and to disprove the negative conclusion.
Remember the disrespectful schoolkids in my neighborhood? Well, a teacher friend asked me a few days ago to assist her for a day, during her class field-trip to Ellis Island and Liberty Island.
Did you hear that? I got invited to spend time with kids ( I love kids ) and to see Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty up close, FOR FREE! lol
I got assigned to look after 21 kids ( grade 4, ages 10 to 11 ). And I apologize for having concluded that Jersey City kids are generally disrespectful. Those 21 kids, they were such trusting, friendly, thoughtful, innocent souls. And from the start, they called me " Mommy. " They gave me lotsa hugs throughout our 5-hour trip together, than I can count. They took turns holding my hands every second. They were very direct and they tell it like it is. There is nothing artificial about them. They told me private stuff they never told anyone. Asked me for advice. Generally, needed affection. And I showered them with lots of affection and individualized attention. They followed my directions without me having to raise my voice or give threats. We developed some hand signals so they instantly know what to do next. We played Filipino games together. lol. I've been running regularly that's why I was able to keep up with them.
We went to the souvenir store and they stared longingly at certain inexpensive items. And what kind of a " Mommy " would I be, if I didn't buy them a small remembrance of The Statue of Liberty, and of our time together. Now the Statue have a more personal meaning to us.
Imagine 21 kids and a woman having a group hug after the trip.
The school is just across the street from where I live. I see them practically everyday. They gleefully say " Mommy!!! " when they see me. And ofcourse, a great hug. My cup runs over.
21 more people to pray for regularly. There's always room in my list.
Thank you, Lord.

| Oh Gee |
Jun 4, 2008 6:49 am 481 Views | | Gee - spot ( definition ) - several people in the world probably has heard of this delightful thing. It is located inside a woman's body.
Calling any part of the body by a single letter can be unfair. Why not call it by any other consonant? What's wrong with F? Or Q? Come to think of it, what's wrong with the vowels? Calling that part the " Gee - Spot " could be discriminatory and against Alphabetical rights.
I rest my case.

| S*x in The City |
Jun 4, 2008 6:33 am 452 Views | At first I thought the movie was overrated. So I watched it to find out.
To each his/her own taste, and for me, Kim Cattrall's beauty, sex appeal, personality, and clothes, are good reasons to watch the film. lol
She depicts a succesful woman who used to have lotsa fun, then decided to have a relationship with just one guy. Her next door neighbor is absolutely hot and she did everything so she won't cheat on her partner. She loves her friends dearly. Nurtures them when they're down. Takes care of their problems when they're too messed up to deal with them themselves. And she deals with her own stuff.
A lovely woman, altogether.
The movie is about four close friends, and my mind automatically recalled my own priceless moments with my true friends. Ofcourse I cried.

| What Makes It a Good Morning |
Jun 4, 2008 6:15 am 412 Views | | Every morning, I watch Good Morning, America, for three reasons. They have four hosts, I really like them as a team, but I love three of them.
Diane Sawyer, I love her kind face. When I googled her, her monthly salary could feed an entire small country. When she interviews someone undergoing difficult times, her eyes mirror the person's pain. I dunno if that is just plain acting, but I often watch her because she comes across as a very compassionate lady.
Robin Roberts, I love her spunk and personality. She is a survivor. Her life story inspires women to keep fighting. Her wit never ceases to amaze me. But she never puts anyone down.
Last but not least, I watch their show daily just to hear Sam Champion's laughter. No matter what weather it is outside, when I hear Sam's laughter, everything seems alright in the world. It is contagious.
The four hosts combine their personalities and humor very well. They have lotsa fun while doing their job. And everyday, because of them, it is indeed a Good Morning in America.

| Aghast |
May 23, 2008 10:18 am 553 Views | | I have seen so many disrespectful school kids in Jersey City to last me a lifetime. If this is a preview of future adults this side of America, I shudder with revulsion. They do not know how to respect elders, females, nor themselves. There are exceptions ofcourse, but not a lot.
Sorry about this.
