Bantutay and frog soup

Some may say YUkkkk or ewwww with this post frog recipe..
In some regions in the Philippines , or maybe in Asia, frogs are a delicacy.. an exotic one. Frogs used are the frogs found in the ricefields. They usually have long legs and can jump very high.{not the bull frogs} kokak kokak
We own a resto when I was young and one favorite dish my mom served during those times was the BANTUTAY.
How is BANTUTAY made?
First, catch the frogs.. kokak kokak..Usually caught in the evening with the use of a net because they jump high. Who will catch them? usually farmers, or an ordinary man looking for a source of livelihood in the barrio, or having fun catching frogs!) but very seldom I think because they are busy in the net games.}
First thing is undress the frog with the use of ashes so it wo;t be slippery. Head is cut and internal organs are removed.
Do the same with the other frogs. Get the biggest frogs and set aside.
Chop the small frogs into small pieces.. smaller... smaller. finer.. finer...
Add chopped carrots, garlic, onions and lots of ground pepper. You can add egg if you wish. Mix and mix and mix..Add salt to taste.
Get the big frogs with big tummy and stuff it with the mixture till its tummy is full.
Prepare your frying pan, add oil.. heat.. heat. heating up!! then let the frog swim into the oil till it is brown.
Serve with catsup and with steaming rice!! Hmmm it's yummy!
I miss it! I miss my mom too! I love you Inang!!
And one time when got sick, I was so weak, my mom cooked frog soup for me..
undressed frogs, ginger, onions, and chili leaves.. and that's it!
Love it too! I recovered at once!

I had a student who failed in my subject but gave him chance to work since I handle with them Technology and Livelihood Education. I made him do his drafting plates, his project and made him do some cleaning at the Science laboratory as part of his activity.
It was the first time he mopped the floor, squeze mop head and sweep the floor. His Father was Chinese and mom was a Pinay. While he was cleaning we talked while I was checking papers. I told him,"If you are given chance to minimize your problems, then do it! So instead of failing 3 subjects, then trim down to 2 since I am willing to give you chance."
(By the way, Nobody should fail in TLE class, since every has some skills in doing different stuffs! If they can't do drafting, let then do sewing, or if they fail in sewing, let the clean as Home making arts, so I really need to pass him! but make him learn something!)
So he did the cleaning with some girls working with him. I actually passed him already after having group snacks of pandisal and butter!! it was fun for them too! I had their pics taken after eating..
But his problem is no longer my subject but the academic ones... Physics and English! which is hopeless for him!
The next day was their practice for graduation. He came to me and said, " It irritates me when I hear that graduation march song!" so he plugged his ears with headset and switched to music. I told him remove one ear plug and so he did . We talked and I told him, " this is what you call SHIT HAPPENS! then we laughed together!
I said next time be serious or give time in whatever you do. You have money but lost time will never be recovered. Life lesson is very long process and it takes time before you really learn and master it, but along the way we still fail. so there is no mastery!
"Oo nga ma'm.." "Oo nga ," sabi ko din.. "ang sarap mong batukan! And I shared him my food, we ate together and he thanked me."
He won't go up the stage this year2014 and need to take Summer classes before he can get his diploma.
I just pray he learned something and will do better next time! He was deprived of vacation in Hongkong!

MANILA -- Women usually go to great lengths to make sure that they are beautiful and neat. Taking care of the skin and hair is easy, but how does one take care of her vagina?
On Wednesday's episode of "Magandang Gabi Dok," obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Mean Tabaquero talked about vaginal health.
She explained that it is normal for women to have discharges at different times during their menstrual cycle.
"During ovulating time, iyung discharge malabnaw, parang egg white. Kapag malapit na ang menstruation, mas malapot at buo-buo yung discharge."
However, if the discharge is colored, has a fishy smell, and comes with itchiness, then the woman might be suffering from vaginal infection.
Vaginal infection can be caused by bacteria, fungi, or a sexually-transmitted disease (STD).
Bacterial vaginosis is a common bacterial infection that affects women. Aside from having yellow discharge, women may notice a fishy odor coming from their vagina.
Women who suffer from hormonal imbalance, who are taking pills, or who are nearing menopause are more prone to vaginosis.
According to Tabaquero, vaginosis can be treated by taking oral antibiotics for at least a week.
"Mawawala na yung amoy in just 48 hours."
She added that in some cases, they also prescribe vaginal suppository.
Candidiasis is a common fungal infection that has almost the same symptoms as vaginosis. It can also be easily treated with one dose of antifungal medicine that can be taken orally or as a suppository.
Women with diabetes and those nearing menopause are more prone to this fungal infection.
Tabaquero explained that unlike fungal and bacterial infections, STDs are more difficult to cure.
"Kapag STD, we have to be more specific. Usually antibiotics pa rin pero depende sa kind ng disease."
The most common types of STDs that affect women are gonorrhea, trichomoniasis and chlamydia.
In terms of taking care of the vagina, Tabaquero explained that women shouldn't be too conscious about it because the vagina is a "self-cleaning organ."
She added that the vagina is naturally acidic, and lactic acid prevents bacterial and fungal infections.
A woman's vagina naturally maintains its natural acidity, unless the woman is stressed, is using pills, or is suffering from hormonal imbalance.
She also said that women can use vaginal wash, but it is not necessary unless they are menstruating.
"Ang mga Pilipino sanay sa mabango. Pero kahit hindi mag-vaginal wash, okay lang. Minsan mas nakakatuyo ang vaginal wash, lalo na kapag malapit na mag-menopause."
Tabaquero added that it is okay for women not to use panty liners, unless they are experiencing heavy discharge.
She advised women to change their liners every two to four hours to prevent infection.
