Psychology is the study of human mind and behavior.
What is the psychology of love? It must be the study of how humans get attracted to and attach to one another.
There is a school of thought that says that you will be attracted to one who is most like your opposite-gender parent, especially those with the same flaws. A daughter of a degenerate gambler will fall in love with a boy who also likes to gamble. The theory is that as a child she could never “fix” her father, but as an adult, she feels she can “control” her partner.
You can check out this theory. If you are female, what was the biggest flaw of your dad? The theory says you will tend to fall in love with a boy who has that same flaw.
The theory explains why the bad boys (read: “playboys”) get the girls, if there are enough playboy dads around. When a girl says she wants honesty, but her dad has several mistresses, watch out. She likely says one thing but will do something else.
It’s a tough conclusion: a straight honest guy stands only a little chance of getting loved.
In a double-standard society, most mothers are “straight” but too protective. That means few sons will fall for girls with loose morals. They will seek out protective mother hens, and try to make them less “motherly.” For a girl, being protective is a great attractor of boys.
But the resulting relationships are at least laden with challenges. Most involve a playboy and a protective mother hen. The boy will tend to work hard to cut the proverbial apron strings, until the protective girl sees the light. The girl tends to work hard to keep the playboy from “straying,” until he gives up! If they don’t succeed, the game goes on with the next generation. And so on..
KISS means “keep it simple, stupid.” Translated to practice, it means:
1. Take the straight path – it is the shortest distance. 2. Take no excess baggage. The shirt on your back, the sandals on your feet, and a smile can be enough to travel through life. Besides, the airlines charge to check-in. 3. Eat with your hands. 4. Small is beautiful. 5. Aim low. 6. Your biggest enemy is you. 7. Don’t worry, be happy.
There is an excellent blog here at FFF by Mhayonaise on why men cheat. Here is a take on why some women do.
Narcissism is excessive vanity. It involves fascination with one’s image.
The conventional wisdom is that infidelity can be a natural result of narcissism. Society conditions women to have a need to feel beautiful, so they look in the mirror. If the mirror is a cute devil, that’s the show.
There may be other reasons, mostly due to the fault of the man, but I leave it to others to dissect them.
Recall that N was famous for his beauty, and he even attracted men. So, it is not surprising that gay men are typically narcissistic, and also promiscuous.
But it is a matter of degree. All of us have a bit of Narcissus in ourselves, so a little does not make for infidelity. A lot obviously does. According to health experts, less than 1 percent of the population is narcissistically unhealthy, and of those, only 25% are women.
Since men are more likely to be narcissists than women, they cheat more.
There are exceptions to the link between narcissism and cheating. One is the “cerebral” narcissist, who is not into sex. An “intellectual” woman absorbed in her image of her mental powers is therefore an exception.
According to experts, you can tell a narcissist by the extent to which they behave like a “spoiled child.” This is the two-word test of narcissism. I’m not sure that if a person has lots of pictures that she is a narcissist. Maybe what she does with those pictures is something else.
