one for "dear abby" Nov 2, 2009 2:42 pm
215 Views
This is one for the "Dear Abby" page of FFF (I wish there's one). I have a friend who is in a moral dilemma regarding a personal concern. My opinion was solicited and I have given it but I feel that others' opinion will also help my friend decide what to do. But due to the sensitivity of the subject, I can not give too much details. Let me just state it this way:

If you have once been burned, got hurt, moved on, and the person who hurt you played another person's feelings, ended the same way and now looks like a new person is next in line, and it is possible for you to warn the likely next victim, would you issue the warning? Or just say, "let the buyer beware"?

I'd appreciate comments that would help my friend decide what to do or not to do but not feel guilty that the appropriate thing was not done.

Thanks, friends.

Food for thought: The wisdom of Conrado De Quiros Nov 7, 2009 5:37 am
34 Views
I am a fan of Conrado de Quiros on Fzbk. He has started posting on his Wall since yesterday and I am sharing his thoughts here to other deQuiros followers who may have not yet found him on FB.
These are some relevant things to think about....

Change had come to the Philippines as much as to America. Suddenly, out of the deepest darkness, a burst of light. Suddenly, out of the blanket of despair, a ray of hope. Suddenly, after a long long time, Filipinos could breathe again, Filipinos could trust again, Filipinos could dream again.

What the voters today want—which has given rocket fuel to Noynoy’s bid even before he bid—is someone they can trust. Under GMA’s shadow, that trust is no longer earned by what public officials do but what they do not. What you see is what you get? What you do not see is what you want to get.

This government is not the cure, it is the disease. This government is not the shelter, it is the storm. It can create as many commissions and frameworks as it likes, but we will be no nearer to being prepared to deal with disaster than Arroyo will be prepared to deal with life without power.

Noynoy running for president will deliver us back to the beginning of things, or thrust us back to the time where myth and history meet or the place where life and legend intersect. The time or place of the great fight between Good and Evil: Between Cory and Marcos, between Obama and Bush, between the Fellowship of the Ring and the Eye of Mordor, between Luke Skywalker and the Evil Empire.

[B]Doubtless we cannot solve global warming alone, but neither can others do so that way. Being poor is no excuse to not do our part. As Saturday showed, there is nothing better to do than to save the planet. There are worse things than being poor. Being poorer is one of them. Being dead is another.

we all are "intelligent" enough to know for whom some blogs are written by other bloggers and we don't have to play dumb and pretend we don't know.

These blogs just prove that we all are REACTING. That's what we do here. We react. And when we do we run over some people's opinions.

I know some people have been posting blogs about my seemingly "controversial" dislike for someone who asks for it. I am to the place now that I don't care about his quest to be liked or disliked but for heaven's sake, now that he has successfully gotten people to dislike him, then the "dislike" should be expected. Of course there will be People who will take his side - that's fine -- just funny that some people would view the "reaction" as more tremendously offending than whatever it is that caused the reaction.

Just to clarify, YOU said YOU have chats that spawned "comments" in your respective blogs and that's your business. How we (or I, for that matter) react to what I read, is completely my business too. That is why my blog is titled as such. KNEE-JERK REACTIONS.

Whatever I blog about, positive or negative, is my REACTION -- SO ARE YOURS. This is why I sometimes choose to disable further comments because if I was looking for trouble, that is very easy to do. DIGGING UP what has been buried for so many days now (which, I'd like to call, DELAYED REACTIONS) does look more to me as ASKING FOR TROUBLE.

As to the other "persona", unless EVERYONE in this blogspace can tell me that the demeanor shown was not inappropriate and instead was very PLEASANT(choice of words and manner of saying it, counts), I would probably consider my KJ reaction out of place. But unfortunately for me, there are people who choose to post the comment in an email rather than on the blog. And I own up. My words are all my own and I take full responsibility.

For the sake of clarity, I remember that I was referring to a specific person in one of my blogs. When this "other" person came in (apparently heard the "clarion" call, or "nasagasaan"), and then started ruffling his own feathers and probably beat his chest to make his presence known, I even have to go back and check what he said in a blog that had made him STEP FORWARD and claim ownership.

ummm... moi? or should it be muaaah*

i'm the self-acknowledged kantoboy-the bad boy & Bolero as i like to call myself.

I am lewd, lascivious even at times; but all in good faith and in the spirit of fun

When I made an appeal to instead turn the boastfulness to humanitarian effort and to consider the calamities, he made a quick change of gear saying he felt the same way but attacked again by saying I should have posted an OUR FATHER -- why don't I turn this around now and ask the same thing? Why, instead of being lewd and lascivious, did he not post an OUR FATHER?

What do i do? After all it was my blog he chose to leave unpalatable remarks in.

For the record: I don't know this guy enough to really say that I was "negative" about him. Yes he is free to be whatever he wants to be, lewd, lascivious, kanto boy, whatever and I don't care. And I won't be surprised if he would feel the same way towards me.

BUT ----WHAT he got from me for a response, He asked for it. And I gave it to him. That's all there is to it.

I thought about this response. I have the option to say something or not say something about it. I chose to say something but not to create discord. Just a heads up for everyone that WE ALL REACT. OTHERWISE, WE WON'T BE BLOGGING OR COMMENTING HERE. I AIR MY VIEWS AND IF I FEEL SOME QUARTERS WOULD WANT TO CREATE AN UNREASONABLE ISSUE OF IT, I LET THE READERS KNOW THAT I AM DISABLING FURTHER COMMENTS --THAT IS NOT TO RUN AWAY BUT TO KILL THE ISSUE. RESURRECT IT AND THIS IS WHAT YOU GET -- A GHOST.

My everyday job brings me to hundreds of internet pages clicked and skimmed while looking for specific information tasked to me. I was asked to research about breast cancer awareness (pink ribbon), AIDS (red ribbon), save Mother Earth (green ribbon), Cory Aquino (yellow ribbon), death and obituaries (black ribbon) and finally, "no blood spilt" (white ribbon)

My ribbon collection is growing....can you add some more? (please no farm ville ribbons)

cremation vs traditional burial Oct 31, 2009 6:28 pm

I have just recently read an interesting news article about traditional burial versus cremation. I am aware of the religious issues regarding these two and it is something new to look at the environmental friendliness of both practices. FOr obvious reasons, traditional burial would lose on the count of being unsanitary (I can just imagine the flooded cemetery in Cavite that sent coffins floating in floodwaters). Economics considered, traditional burial is more expensive and takes so much space. But interesting to take note that : "The major emissions from crematories are nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter, mercury, hydrofluoric acid, hydrochloric acid, NMVOCs, and other heavy metals, in addition to persistent organic pollutants (POP)."
Added to that: "Ang alam kung issue diyan eh ang pag mobilize ng toxic chemicals that's inside the body. Example eh mga tao na gumamit ng mga makalumang pasta sa ngipin nila. Mga lumang pasta kasi gumamit ng mercury, may toxic chemicals yun eh." (ganun pala un?)

cremation or traditional burial?

To whoever:
I know what you are referring to. This is not to justify but in my own way, I do what I hope would make somebody think twice before recklessly showing a popularly known "kanto boy" demeanor. It does not affect me directly, that is true, but the comments to women, even those not saying things against him, picking up on things and making "bastos" comments, is I think, not fun anymore -- especially coming from a fellow Pinoy -- you can all easily find blogs here where these kinds of comments were left.

To his friends: it is sad that I have seen you making appeals for him to "change" for his own good but obviously neglecting even the well-meaning friends. I know you do go around and read comments too in other blogs. Some comments are just plain offending. Who am I to judge? Nobody. I am just making my own move to try to voice out an opinion. And in the past even some of you have "agreed". It is even sadder to think that some people now toggle between ok and not okay about some of his offensive behavior.

DO I enjoy it? Not at all. It saddens me that he makes it even TRUER what Filipino guys are like in the eyes of the world.

It is bad enough that the Philippines is beaten black and blue every other two weeks or so by the natural calamities. We all could use seeing this boastfulness turn into some humanitarian effort instead.

some kind of excitement Oct 31, 2009 4:52 am

Santi's visit happened as forecasted, did its destructive thing and then left as if nothing happened (at least where I live) -- between 10pm last night and 4am this morning, we were on our toes keeping watch - typhoon Santi howled and hissed and pounded houses, we couldn't sleep -- it felt like it was ripping all the roofs apart. Then at 4am it calmed down slowly -- by 8:30 am the sun was out shining, the sky held no trace of the tumultuous evening before. Ahh, weather... violent and destructive one moment, calm and innocent the next.

I went out of the house at 8:00 am, the yard a complete mess-- plant pots toppled over, plants uprooted, everything in disarray -- the door of the store in front of our house fell off, the angle bars holding the ledges hang loose from the wall -- you would wonder if someone with a hammer did all that work overnight.

Quite a clean-up job we did this morning -- but by 11am, it again felt like SUMMER. --business as usual -- went tutoring and back. Power is back. Thank goodness.

When I said the humdrum of everyday is boring, I didn't mean to find "excitement" this way. And obviously, Santi had its plans all laid out, executed and accomplished.

I dread the thought of 3 more in the forecast before the year ends.
