THE WAY OF PURIFICATION
CONVERSION

Chapter 19
God’s Standards

CHRIST

MY , on the Day of Judgment the rags of the poor will shine more brilliantly than the fine clothes of those who loved this earthly life to much. The homes of the poor will be honored more than the comfortable mansions of the rich. In that hour the patience of My loyal followers will have greater merit than the human might of the world. Simple obedience to My laws will be more highly praised than all earthly cleverness.

2. In the Day of Truth a pure and good conscience will bring more joy than mere learning. The man who refused to sin for earthly gain, will be the envy of those who lived only for this world. You will have more consolation for having prayed devoutly than for having enjoyed earth’s pleasures and comforts.

3. Then you will be glad of the prayerful silence you observed, rather than for having talked a great deal. Good works will be of greater value than good words. Self-control and healthy penance will be more pleasing to you than all the delights of earth.

Chapter 18
The Day of Judgment

PRAY,

O Jesus, My Judge and King, I refuse to drift along each day until death takes me by surprise. I want to follow Your standards as You speak to me today through Your Church. Tell me how You want me to live and I hope to follow Your every wish. I need not fear the Judgment if only I will be loyal to You in my daily life. Amen

THE WAY OF PURIFICATION
CONVERSION

Chapter 18
The Day of Judgment

THINK,

Like a river that flows ever onward toward the sea, the current of daily life moves ever onward toward the Day of Judgment. That day will correct the wrong standards and foolish ideals of worldly men. It will be the Day of Truth, the triumph of holiness. Will I drift along on my daily course or will I regularly check my direction by an intelligent self-examination? I prepare for a joyful judgment or a fearful one by the kind of life I live today.

Chapter 18
The Day of Judgment

CHRIST,

MY , those who are loyal to MY commandments in this life, will not be in terror on the Day of Judgment. The sign of the cross will appear in the sky when I come to judge the world. Then all my loyal followers, the followers of the cross, will come with great confidence to Me, their crucified King and Judge.

2. On that day, the Just shall stand against those who annoyed and persecuted them. Those who humbly bore the judgments of their fellowmen, will rise to judge the rest on that day. The poor and the humble will have great confidence and joy, but the proud and the selfish lovers of this world will have many reasons to be afraid.

3. In that hour everyone will see that the widest people were those who preferred to follow My commandments and live My way. They will no longer be considered fools by the worldly minded. All wrong doing will be silenced and condemned, while every suffering endured with patience, will bring joy and gladness. The unreligious will be sad, but My devoted followers will be filled with happiness. Many will thank Me for the hardships and trials which they bore on earth. That day will show forth My power, wisdom and majesty.

OFF THE TREADMILL

The throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. -- Revelation 22:3

I know some people who feel they’re on an endless treadmill. They long to serve God, but they don’t know what to do. One discouraged woman told me, “I’m beginning to want heaven already–at least I know I’ll be used there!” she read Revelation 22 and the words. “His servant shall serve Him.” (v.3 )

I wish I’d had the following list that someone later shared with me. It’s called “Seven things That Can Be Done Only In This Life.”

1. Love and pray for your enemies (Matthew 5:44 ).
2. Walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5 ).
3. Love God by enduring temptation (James 1:12 ).
4. Through love serve one another ( Galatians 5:13 ).
5. Lay up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-20 ).
6. Share the gospel with the lost (Matthew 28:19-20 ).
7. Exercise your spiritual gifts (Romans 12:6-8 ).

This list isn’t exhaustive, but it’s a good reminder of how God wants us to live and what He wants us to do.

Are you seeking God’s direction in your service for Him? The best way to discover God’s specific will for your life is to obey His clearly revealed will. It’s an effective remedy for that treadmill feeling between now and heaven! -- JEY

WHEN WE'RE WRONGED

When you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. - 1 Peter 2:20

Life can be lived with joy and peace
Amid its heartache and pain,
For with God’s help our hate can cease
And peace and justice will reign. -- D. De Haan

THE BEST WAY TO RESPOND TO WRONG
IS TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT.

WHEN WE'RE WRONGED

When you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. - 1 Peter 2:20

It’s natural to want to defend ourselves against injustice and to strike back. But if we’re quiet and peaceful when others mistreat and persecute us, we are responding in a Christlike way. God wants to develop in us qualities that are unnatural for us. Anyone can be patient when everything’s going his or her way. The greater virtue is to remain calm and controlled under provocation (1 Peter 2:20 ).

Fenelon, a 17th-century theologian, put it this way. “Don’t be upset when evil men and women defraud you. Let them do as they please, just seek to do the will of God…. Silent peace and sweet fellowship with God will repay you for every evil thing done against you. Fit your eyes on God.” He allows painful situations to come into your life, and according to Fenelon, “He does this for your benefit.”

For our benefit? Indeed! As we respond to injustice in a Christlike way, our anxiety, insecurity, and pessimism will be transformed into tranquility, stability, and hope.

Why do we lash out when we’re mistreated? Why are we so quick to defend ourselves or to seek revenge? It is not that we place too much value on our own comfort and rights?

If so, we must pray, echoing the words of Augustine, “Heal me of this lust of mine to always vindicate myself.” - DHR

OUR LADY OF FATIMA ... Consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

OUR LADY OF FATIMA

III. Consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

One part of the message of Fatima was Our Lady’s desire for the world to be consecrated to her Immaculate Heart. And indeed, what safer refuge could there be for this poor world of ours? Where else could it find better protection and shelter? This consecration means drawing near, through the Mother’s intercession, to the very Fountain of life that sprung from Golgotha. This Fountain pours forth unceasingly for the sins of the world. It is a ceaseless source of new life and holiness.

Pope Pius XII whose Episcopal ordination took place precisely on the 13th of May 1917, the date of the first apparition, consecrated the human race, and especially the peoples of Russia, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Pope John Paul II later renewed it, and we in turn can unite ourselves to this petition: O Mother of individuals and peoples, you who know all their sufferings and their hopes, you who have a mother’s awareness of all the struggles between good and evil, between light and darkness, which afflict the modern world, accept the cry which we, as though moved by the Holy Spirit, address directly to your heart. Embrace, with the love of the Mother and Handmaid, this human world of ours, which we entrust and consecrate to you, for we are full of disquiet for the earthly and eternal destiny of individuals and peoples.

In a special way we entrust and consecrate to you those individuals and nations which particularly need to be entrusted and consecrated. ‘We fly to your patronage, O holy Mother of God; despise not our petitions in our necessities.’

Reject them not!
Accept our humble trust ‒ and our act of entrusting!

The Virgin Mary, always attentive to what we ask her for, enables us to find refuge and shelter in her most pure heart.

OUR LADY OF FATIMA

II. The Blessed virgin asks us to do penance for the sins of mankind. (last part)

Penance is knowing how to reconcile your duties to God, to others and to yourself, by making demands on yourself so that you find enough time for each of your tasks. You are practicing penance when you lovingly keep to your schedule of prayer, despite feeling worn out, listless or cold.

Penance means very charitable at all times towards those around you, starting with the members of your family. It is to be full of tenderness and kindness towards the suffering, the sick and the infirm. It is to give patient answers to people who are boring and annoying. It means interrupting our work, or changing our plans, when circumstances make this necessary, above all when the just and rightful needs of others are involved.

Penance consist in putting up good-humouredly with the thousand and one little pinpricks of each day; in not abandoning your task, although you have momentarily lost the enthusiasm with which you started it; in eating gladly whatever is served, without being fussy.

For parents and in general for those who work involves supervision or teaching, penance is to correct whenever it is necessary. This should be done bearing in mind the type of fault committed and the situation of the person who needs to be helped, not letting oneself be swayed by subjective viewpoints, which are often cowardly and sentimental.

A spirit of penance keeps us from becoming too attached to the vast imaginative blueprints we have made for our future projects, where we have already foreseen our master-strokes and brilliant successes. When joy we give to God when we are happy to lay aside our third-rate painting efforts and let him put in the features and colours of his choice! What a wonderful masterpiece then appears!
