Iran to US: Don’t try anything stupid; Threat of surprise TEHRAN (Agencies): Iran’s army commander has warned the United States and other Western powers not to make any “stupid move” over Tehran’s nuclear work, and suggested they would be surprised by Iran’s military response if they attacked. The comments by the commander-in-chief of the army, reported by newspapers on Saturday, were the latest in a series of defiant statements by Iran’s leadership as the United Nations prepares to vote on new sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
Iran is embroiled in an escalating dispute over its uranium enrichment, which Iran says is for fuel for power generation but the West suspects is aimed at making nuclear bombs. The United States says it would prefer a negotiated solution to the crisis, but has not ruled out military options. Armed forces chief Ataollah Salehi said Iran’s military was stronger now than when Iran fought against Iraq in 1980-88. “And if our bullying enemies make a stupid move, they will certainly be surprised,” the daily Siyasat-e Rouz quoted him as saying on Friday.
Military experts say Iranian forces are no technological match for the US military but could still cause havoc in the Gulf and the narrow Strait of Hormuz, a choke point through which two-fifths of the world’s traded oil passes. A draft resolution agreed by the UN Security Council’s five members with veto power — the United States, France, Britain, China and Russia — and Germany was sent to the 15-nation council on Thursday for a vote, expected next week. It seeks new sanctions including an arms export ban and an expanded asset freeze list over Iran’s refusal to suspend uranium enrichment.

KUWAIT CITY: The Filipino man who was found by the police lying on the street in the Shaab area, badly beaten and with a charred face, finally succumbed to his wounds after being confined for a week in the Intensive Care Unit of Al Babtain Burns Hospital. The man, who was identified by authorities as Rolando Casulang, 50, expired at 0330 hours Saturday, disclosed Philippine Embassy Assistance to Nationals Unit Head Mustapha Bayanan to the Arab Times.“We have already informed his wife in the Philippines about his death and the embassy is coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities to expedite the repatriation of his remains,” said Bayanan. Casulang, who hailed from Surigao in Southern Philippines worked as X-ray technician at the Kuwait Military Hospital. His body was referred to the Forensic Department for autopsy.
A day before he died, the Arab Times visited Casulang who was then in coma and hooked to a life-support system. His face was red, blistered, swollen and beyond recognition with gauze pads placed on his eyes. Police earlier arrested a Filipina identified as Minerva Pangilinan Tayag, believed to be the victim’s girlfriend, who was suspected of assaulting him. Bayanan told the Arab Times that Tayag allegedly admitted during the investigation that she splashed boiling cooking oil on Casulang’s face and hit him hard on the head with a piece of wood till he fell unconscious. The suspect, who is now being detained at the Kuwait Central Jail, reportedly met the victim in December last year. Their meeting blossomed into a romantic relationship and they used to have a tryst at the house of Tayag’s employer where they allegedly made love on several occasions. However, their budding romance was cut short when the suspect learned that Casulang was also having an affair with another Filipina. She decided to end their affair after the victim refused to terminate his other relationship.
Police reports revealed that despite the break-up Casulang kept on calling Tayag that he wanted to see her and sleep with her. On the night of the incident, she finally relented knowing that her employers were not at home. At first, she refused but when he insisted she splashed the boiling cooking oil on his face and hit him hard on the head with a big piece of wood to end his sexual advances. She then allegedly dragged the unconscious man onto the street. Police found him on the street and tracked down the suspect by tracing incoming and outgoing calls on the cellphone of the victim.
“We are still waiting for the complete details of the investigation and the medical report. We will be visiting Tayag at the Central Jail to listen to her side of the story and we will let the Kuwait Judicial System take its course on the case,” stated Bayanan. Philippine Charge d’ Affaires Rea Oreta has issued a directive to the Assistance to Nationals Unit to coordinate with the employer of the deceased to claim his benefits on behalf of his family and to expedite the repatriation of his remains.

KUWAIT CITY: Washington will launch a military strike on Iran before April 2007, say sources. The attack will be launched from the sea and Patriot missiles will guard all oil-producing countries in the region, they add. Recent statements emanating from the United States indicate the Bush administration’s new strategy for Iraq doesn’t include any proposal to make a compromise or negotiate with Syria or Iran. A reliable source said President Bush recently held a meeting with Vice President dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice and other assistants in the White House where they discussed the plan to attack Iran in minute detail.
According to the source, Vice President dick Cheney highlighted the threat posed by Iran to not only Saudi Arabia but the whole region. “Tehran is not playing politics. Iranian leaders are using their country’s religious influence to support the aggressive regime’s ambition to expand,” the source quoted dick Cheney as saying. Indicating participants of the meeting agreed to impose restrictions on the ambitions of Iranian regime before April 2007 without exposing other countries in the region to any danger, the source said “they have chosen April as British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said it will be the last month in office for him. The United States has to take action against Iran and Syria before April 2007.”
Claiming the attack will be launched from the sea and not from any country in the region, he said “the US and its allies will target the oil installations and nuclear facilities of Iran ensuring there is no environmental catastrophe or after effects.” “Already the US has started sending its warships to the Gulf and the build-up will continue until Washington has the required number by the end of this month,” the source said. “US forces in Iraq and other countries in the region will be protected against any Iranian missile attack by an advanced Patriot missile system.” -arab times kuwait-

...let me share w/ u from my inbox.... . .<<-It figures. Now that neat waist-cinching belts are making a comeback, you're about three months too pregnant to wear 'em. Well, you don't have to avoid the cool belted trend entirely ‑- this neat approach from Sweetness Products has the same wide-banded look but rides a lot lower down. The best part? It actually turns into a sling you can tote your newborn in after she arrives. The history's pretty cool too: Maternity sashes have been around for ages and have been used in many cultures, like the Navajo and Japanese, to protect the budding baby within.
