Divorce verdict
KUWAIT: The Court of Appeal recently refused to cancel an earlier verdict of divorce a citizen had won against her late husband, reported Al-Watan. Case papers indicate that the wife had filed for the divorce, which she obtained. However, on learning that her husband had died, she changed her mind and tried to file a retraction in order to obtain her share of the inheritance. Her stepsons filed a complaint demanding that the original divorce verdict be considered final, as it had been issued before their father's death.

Munich Airport issued a statement denying having ever abused a Saudi woman. The Saudi lady, Mrs M.K. refused to remove her face veil for identification, albeit she was all alone with a female police in a separate room. She was simply asked to wait for an official of the Saudi Embassy to come and help identifying her. She was the one who screamed, cursed and swore at the airport officials. From my own experience I can safely say that the German police are very courteous and polite, in particular at airports. At least when they talk to you they always say "Mr" or "Ms". They would never rudely use your first name as all Gulf Arab police do. At any rate, let's assume for a moment that the Saudi woman and the two students were really badly treated by the German and American police respectively, something that might exceptionally happen here and there.

How often are expatriates abused by police in Arab Gulf states? Abuse and disrespect of expatriates is the rule in the Arab Gulf states and not the exception. They shout at you, disrespect you, make you wait for hours and days, very often for no palpable reasons. If you look Indian or Filipino, you are merely a name and a number, you are discriminated against and treated like a slave. In sum, expatriates are abused day in and day out in the Gulf states. Abusing expatriates and treating them with disrespect have become part and parcel of the Arab culture at the Gulf. How dare one mistreat those Gulf Arabs, those masters? Gulf Arabs believe that they have been born to give orders, never to receive any.

Abuse, disrespect of expatriates
Mohammed Jazaeri reports in Al-Sharq Alawsat (May 27) that two Saudi students were ill-treated in the US. Because the students mistakenly changed buses and spoke broken English.
