SAYANG
(RIVERMAYA)

INTRO: E-F#m-A-E
VERSE: E-F#m-G-A

ang dami kong nadidinig na katanungan
bakit daw? anong nangyari?

CHORUS: E-A-D-A / E-A-G-A

OFFICIAL STATEMENT
FROM RIVERMAYA MANAGEMENT
14 JUNE 2007

We confirm that Mr. Rico Blanco has written us a letter of resignation from Rivermaya. We are unable to give an explanation for this action since Mr. Blanco's statements are inconsistent with the facts. For the record, Mr. Blanco did not make any announcement of his leaving Rivermaya 'as early as 2005', or in 2004 or 2006, for that matter. On the contrary, he actively participated in and benefited from our plans and activities, not to mention the record-breaking number of awards, local and foreign concerts and endorsements during those years.

While our artist-management contract was automatically and validly renewed, the same letter contains a bewildering and inaccurate declaration that neither Mr. Chito S. Rono nor I have been his managers since 2003. 'Inexistent and of no force and effect' were his words to describe a relationship that has spanned 14 years since the start of his career in the music business.

That notwithstanding, we have done our best to deal with the situation with professionalism and to dissuade Mr. Blanco from pursuing a rash course of action, that would delay if not cost all of us our successful entry into the international market.

Unfortunately, and despite our best efforts, Mr. Blanco has decided that he no longer shares our vision of a Rivermaya that can spread its wings into Asia. Mr. Blanco has not made it plain as to what he plans to do next and we have not been able to correctly assess our options or courses of action to take, given his leaving the band.

Be that as it may, Rivermaya is not ready to turn its back on its fans and the many relationships we have built in the Philippines and in the rest of the region. We are committed, more than ever, to follow our dream of bringing Original Pilipino Music to our neighboring countries, and to finish what we have started, in the name of all Filipino musicians. We have seen for ourselves how the power of OPM can transform the image of the Filipino abroad and how, in our own small way, we have given our fellow Filipinos working abroad newfound pride in their country.

The road ahead will not be easy, in fact it will be a monumentally difficult one -- and already the naysayers and doomsday experts abound -- but we are ready to pray hard and work even harder to take on the task ahead. We take heart in the thousands of text messages, phone calls, and email we have received from friends in and out of the country, asking us not to give up the fight. Thanks to you, our hopes and courage are intact.

We salute all our comrades, past and present, but we continue to believe that no one member of Rivermaya is greater than the whole.

In the next few weeks, we will finalize our plans on how we intend to face these new challenges -- and we will share them with you every step of the way. Only with your support and God's help can we even begin the incredible journey ahead of us.

Five (5) lessons about the way we treat people.

1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady.

During my second month of college, our professor
gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student
and had breezed through the questions until I read
the last one:

"What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the
cleaning woman several times. She was tall,
dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last question
blank. Jus t before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

"Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say "hello."

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.

2. - Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain

One night, at 11:30 p.m., an older African American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway trying to endure a lashing rain storm. Her car had broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car. A young white man stopped to help her, generally unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960's. The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxicab.

She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A special note was attached.

It read: "Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along. Because of you, I was able to make it to m y dying husband's bedside just before he passed away... God bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others."

Sincerely,
Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3 - Third Important Lesson - Always remember those who serve.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.

"How much is an ice cream sundae?" he asked.

"Fifty cents," replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it.

"Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?" he inquired.

By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient.

"Thirty-five cents," she brusquely replied.

The little boy again counted his coins.

"I'll have the plain ice cream," he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies..

You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.

4 - Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a
roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if
anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the
king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by
and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of
vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the
peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the
stone to the side of the road. After much pushing
and straining, he finally succeeded. After the
peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand!

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve
our condition.

5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts...

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a
hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare & serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood
transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had
miraculously survived the same disease and had
developed the antibodies needed to combat the
illness. The doctor explained the situation to her
little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister.

I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, "Yes I'll do it if it will save her." As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheek. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded.

He looked up at the doctor and asked with a
trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away?"

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the
doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.

Club Dredd is back!

Rob Sunico and Patrick Reidenbach have been playing Dr. Frankenstein lately and have resurrected the late Club Dredd and brought it back, Phoenix-like, from the ashes of foggy 80's and 90's memories. The new dive is situated on the second floor of Gweilo's in Eastwood City in Quezon City. A city within a city? Stranger things have happened in Club Dredd's history

The new Dredd has been puttering around for the past few weeks, but officially "kicked off" with a welcome-back party of sorts last Wednesday.

The Dreddmeisters sent PhilMusic a link to their "official statement", about the re-opening, and here it is again in all its glory:

Everyone's been talking about the resurrection of Club Dredd but we've been quiet for the past month as things are still in development. You may have noticed bands have been announcing their gigs there already. Recently Anthem magazine featured an encouraging article about the place so before we get pre-empted further, it's time to make an official statement.

Yes, Club Dredd is back! After nine years in hibernation, we felt that the timing and conditions were just right to reopen again. We found an ideal partner with the Gweilos Group, which has in its own right contributed to the local music scene.

Through this partnership, Club Dredd has now taken over the second floor of Gweilos Eastwood, taking advantage of the facilities there. In this year of movie sequels, the latest incarnation is now Club Dredd Eastwood.

What's great about the place? Well we have improved the sound system, with the help of Stephen Lu of Loudhouse. Also, no more worries about the aircon and banyo that plagued the old venues. We have an excellent, high quality kitchen and bar provided by the Gweilos Group, which is headed by old Dredd habitues Raul De Castro and Marlo Benitez, plus 24-hr security and parking.

We have yet to put up the signage and dress up the place, but since we took over, already many of our favorite acts new and old have played there, and many, many more are scheduled to perform in the coming weeks and months.

We strive for the success of this new venue, and hope it lives up to the legend of the previous Clubs.

I gave you heat in winter
Provided shelter from the storm
Like an Oasis in the desert
I gave you food and kept you warm

Now that your wounds are healed
You try from me to steal
the essence fo my being here

Never have I doubted
you to do me wrong
With my life I trusted
you for so long

Where's the friend I used to know?
You lied and left me in the cold!

I am a violin
and you are my bow
You break the silence
of this empty soul

All I need to do is run to you
Every time I feel sad and blue
All I wanna be's right here with you
Staring at the stars and the moon

You turn the sadness
into joyful bliss
I was in the darkness
freed by your kiss

Rivermaya Auditions For New Vocalist

"Pwede nating sabihin na medyo napilay kami, pero it doesn't mean na we won't move on.

"Included in the EP is the song ‘Sayang.' Well, consider it an open letter to our fans in the form of a song.

Rivermaya held their auditions for their new lead vocalist last August 24 and 25 sa Ishmael Bernal Gallery beside UP Film Center, UP Diliman.

Seven Beer Wonders of the World

1.BILK

"BILK" basically means Beer plus Milk. The idea to produce BILK (which is 30% milk and 70% beer) came from a liquor shop owner in Hokkaido, Japan. In order to solve the problem of overproduction of local milk and to help out his fellow friends and family members (mostly dairy farmers), he proposed to add the milk to beer. BILK also contains hops and the process of making it does not differ much from the normal brewery process. It looks and tastes like ordinary beer with a strong scent of milk and hints of sweet fruity flavor. Currently, BILK is sold only in Japan. However, due to heavy media attention and high local demand, the product is normally out of stock.

2. CHOCOLATE BEER

This limited edition of the "Imperial Chocolate Stout"” is produced by Atsugi, Japan Brewery just before the Valentines Day celebration. What's unusual about this product is it doesn't even contain any cocoa even though the beverage tastes chocolatey and there is a word "Chocolate" in its name. To produce this beer, the malt is roasted at a very high temperature to create the chocolate flavor and darker body. It has an alcohol content of 8.9 percent. The beer costs around 630 yen per bottle and is available only in Japan.

3.CHAMPAGNE BEER

Cobra Beer Inc USA launched the "Krait Prestige Champagne Lager" in 2006. This beverage is a combination of champagne and lager or beer in one bottle. The term "Champagne" actually describes the process of making this product. Once the beverage is packed into 750ml bottles, they will be injected with ale yeast and it is cork conditioned for 2 weeks. The retail price of this product is about $13 per bottle.

4.DOG'S BEER

A pet shop owner in The Netherlands came up with an idea to create beer for her pet dog. The non-alcoholic beverage is made of beef extract and malt. A small local brewery helped her to make her dream come true by producing the beverage, labeled as "Kwispelbier", which basically means beer for the wagging tail. It costs about $2.15 per bottle or equivalent to Euro 1.65.

5.PIZZA BEER

The "Mamma Mia Pizza Beer" was created by Tom and Athena Seefurth of Campton Township, Illinois, USA in 2006. Thebeer is now sold in their local restaurant and it claims to be the world's first culinary beer. The ingredients to produce this beverage include tomatoes, onions, garlics and spices such as oregano and basil. Obviously, "the beer tastes of the ingredients mentioned above" as claimed by the locals who have tasted it.

6.BEER-SICLES

in Alexandria, Virginia came up with the idea of creating the beer-sicles or frozen beer popsicles-look-alike made from 99 percent beer quite recently. However, due tocontroversy and possible violation of the local alcohol law, the production of the said beer-sicles was put to a temporary stop until further notice.

7. LAUGHING BEER

Israeli chemical engineers came up with the idea of infusing beer with a small amount of laughing gas or nitrous oxide, nitrous oxide, a controlled substance in Israel. It is said that the beer may cause the drinker to laugh. It might be a good way to have some fun and relieve some stress too. However, this product is not in the market yet, pending the approval from the local Health Ministry and patenting procedures.
