Someone asked, "what is respect?" and somebody said "respect is earned." Respect is such a big word, often said but sometimes forgotten. Without looking at a dictionary what is respect to you? Respect can be a noun or a verb. To me respect is knowing that each individual has feelings, beliefs, rights and wishes that are different from mine. Accepting, honoring and understanding these differences is respect to me. Trying to influence other's beliefs in a way that hurts their feelings or intentionally hurt or shame someone is disrespectful. Forcing what you know to make the other feel inferior is disrespectful to me. Respect is not limited to human beings, it is applicable to both living and non-living things or nature. I don't agree that respect needs to be earned. I believe everybody deserves respect unless of course the individual takes it away from themselves. Respect is treating others the way we want to be treated.

Respect is sometimes used as a term for admiration which is not always the case. I may have an admiration for those who have lots of talents but will lose my respect for them if they do evil deeds, though my admiration for the talents stays. Take for example athletes who used drugs to improve their performances, yes we admire them for their talents but we lose our respect because of what they did. I will probably treat that athlete differently by not watching their games or not patronizing their endorsements. Remember Tiger Woods who was admired and adored by many? Respect was lost but still admired for his golf talents.

With regards to nature or environment we should always respect it because nature can never be disrespectful to us and no way it can defend itself.
Let's be kind and respectful to one another and to the environment. Someone who ruins the environment doesn't deserve respect. Someone who disrespect someone doesn't deserve respect. Remember respect commands respect. Respect is precious, hard to earned but easy to give. We must take care of it and give it generously to everyone , specially the deserving ones.

How do you show respect?

Everyone deserves respect until they choose to be disrespectful so therefore do not deserve to be respected. Do you agree?

If somebody is disrespectful to someone they can be disrespectful to me or anyone.
