Khalil Gibran on Marriage

"But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow."

This is part of my homework. One that I am still in the process of balancing and learning everyday.

Hope these passages inspire us all to make our relation
ships beautiful a
nd well-balanced.

Dess,

Like you, I've read this poem and it got stuck in my head too late. I posted this on May 2011 titled "On Marriage" more than a year after my separation. Good thing for you, you're still in the process of exercising the lessons from it. Goodluck sis!

    Quoting Dessiree:
Thanks, Theta How is your heart now? Hope its getting stronger.. there are other nuggets of wisdom in Gibran's The Prophet that you can relearn.

Yes, I hope I don't forget the lessons I have learned Thanks for our input Theta
Dess,

My heart? Not bad at all, always full of love

I had this parting gift from a friend "Thoughts and Meditations" by Gibran I brought with me in the US. Unfortunately, left it there with his "Treasured Writings." Worth reading.

I'll try to find something of him in my book quests. Thanks.
