On his one on one interview with Loren Legarda( a former senator and a protesting Vice-Pres. candidate) on her show "Real Stories", Dr. Mahathir, humbly share his experiences on how he manage to put Malaysia as one of the booming country within the East Asian Region. At the middle part of the interview, the former Prime Minister discussed his views on democratic policy ,principles and its implementation towards his constituents, supporters, and non supporters alike. His view point regarding, street demonstrations, and its negative effect on economic prosper drew my attention most.A simple fact that this is our main concern now here in our country, listening to every words keenly and comparing the maximum tolerance policy being put into practice here in our country, Its much different from them. Dr. Mahathir had mention that in Kuala Lumpur, equality expressions like street protest can only be held once and for all. The reason that with continuous excercise, the effect of the small hand rallies and protest would paralyze day to day market, and by quick response of supressing it, will allow and give more stability options for the majority of the state. Here in our country,it's the opposite, especially now that our President is being accused of electoral fraud and the opposition party on a coalition is pushing her down to resign, now that congress trashed the impeachment proceedings. This political turmoil had inflicted a big blow to the pursuance of unification. Concealed effort of some to grab power and the oppurtunity to be on executive office is obvious. Thus disregarding the prime concern that is the sogging economy and the hopeless case of people in poverty. Rallies here and there, street protest, endless debates on Congress, pending motion of E-VAT tax measures, Surely Dr. Mahathir had his observations and figuratively qouted that there are countries that can't have his fill on his government. The practice of antagonizing and putting a contest on every governing body at seat,no satisfaction at all. Dr. Mahathir, with his nationalistic idealogy had a say on this ,When asked for a prescriptive point regarding the situations facing the Philippine Govt. He simply noted out that He can't give a prescription for the issye, but rather share an encouraging point and emphasis on the plight of the people as priority and concern. A call for Unity, more of nationalistic issues and not on self motive and interest of political power struggle. In fact this was my first time to hear him ,I salute the former Prime Minister, for what he had accomplished for his country and resting an envious feeling within me of how this leader benovolently understands on what has to be done on his peers and how to lead his nation. Sad to say that it is the same democratic practice over and over again, a perpetual procedures of discontentment. Still " I love My Country For Its the Only One I've Got"...God Bless Us All! |

Very well said, my bro. I hope this will serve as a wake-up call for all Filipinos, not only the leaders but the common-tao as well who are oftentimes used by politicians to stage demonstration rallies...like you, I love the Philippines, I may be here in the U.S. but the Phil. will always be my country. I want to see it bloom again. It has all the potentials to become a better nation...maybe someday, hopefully!
