On the 15th day of August 1945,the Japanese Army surrendered to the American Forces ending the menace brought by the atrocities of war.Millions of lives were spent by its affliction and un accountable damages to properties were recorded here in the Philippines and within its neighbouring countries within the Pacific Rim.Lots of stories and testimonies have been told ,grieving tales of pains, lifelong inflictions, loses,courage and bravery by actual witnesses and that of the known victims of the Japanese Occupation in the Pacific. There was a story that tells about the contributed effort of this two men, a saga of courage and bravery ,a recorded testimonies of facts in the middle and later part of World War II. First , was that of a young man name Severino. Viring as his mother used to call him was drafted as a private by the USAFFE assigned as a message courier for the American forces.He delivered top secret from Hq to the guerilla stations within his duty areas.Riding his horse, Viring eluded the Japs by his familiarity with the passages and secret trails of each town within its boundaries.At times He would sneaked in, visiting his mother ALing Maria and his siblings,and will ride his way back trail comes the night to conceal his identity to the Makapili(Japanese collaborators). One morning,while Aling Maria was busy preparing her "kakanin" which she sells for a living,a man connected to the resistant forces approached her,"Aling Maria,dali kayo!Si Viring ho nahuli",acting on her motherly instinct,she quickly called upon her eldest girl and one of her daughters in law,grabbed her "bandana"and hurriedly went on to see the fate of her captured son.Reaching the Poblacion,she approached the Japanese Officer and weepingly asked for a favor to see him.Granted her wish she approached the cell and call upon his son Viring,haggardly and strressed he reach out for her mothers hand and uttered"Ima, bakit pa kayo naparito","Kunin n'yo na ang kabayo ko,at umuwi na ho kayo",tightlipped and sobing with tears overflowing, all she can do was to nod repeatedly.Viring asked for his mothers scarf"Ima iwan nyo na sa akin ang bandana nyo at humayo na kayo" she slipped it, in between the windowbars and turn back from the window.Then she went into a tree at the back of the San Diego de Alcala Church,untied its rein,pull the horse and slowly walk the Church Patio move along heading for home .Just passed the San Roque Church along the dusty road of "Daang Pasolo"the serenity of the morning was broken up by loud bangs of the guns fired by the Japanese Execution Squad.A wailing cry bursted out from Aling Marias heart,"Viring! ... Viring ! naku po! Diyos ko po ang Anak ko". Recognized by the United States Veterans Affairs(USVA)Maria Caco was awarded with a lifetime pension by the American Government by the Service Duty of his unmarried son Severino. Widower, She ably supported the needs of her family , thru the benefits she received from the VA's office , US Embassy in Manila. |
