Do your Heart a Favor...

To forgive is to set a prisoner free and realize that prisoner was you.” ~Lewis B. Smedes

We’ve all heard the saying “forgive and forget.” It seems easy when you say it like that.

The forgetting part can be daunting, though. I can say that when you let go, the memory dims. That’s a start.

I didn’t understand the importance of forgiveness until I was in my late twenties. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve forgiven people over the years. I just never understood how it related to my own well-being.

Usually involve someone we love and have since forgiven, so perhaps the kindest thing I can do both for them and me is not retell the story, but instead create a new one: a story about letting go.

It’s a hard thing to do—to completely let go of something painful and forgive the person who may or may not have realized what they did.

No one is purely bad, and everyone carries their own pain which influences the decisions they make.

This doesn’t condone their thoughtless, insensitive, or selfish decisions, but it makes them easier to understand.

And for the most part, we all do the best we can from day to day—even when we hurt someone; even when we’re too stubborn, ashamed, or in denial to admit the hurt we’ve caused.

After all, we’ve all been thoughtless, insensitive, and selfish at times

Usually, we have good intentions

I had to forgive him for hurting me, but I also had to give myself a break and realize I am only human.

I make mistakes, but I still deserve love.

Only in coming to those conclusions was I able to let my guard down, let go of the past, and truly enjoy the company of someone new.

I have yet to fall in love again, but for first time in years it’s not out of my realm of possibility.

Happiness is always standing by, ready to embrace us.

We just have to be open and willing to receive it.

It is never too late

Forgiveness is for you, not the person you are forgiving.

More often than not, the person you are forgiving will never know you’ve forgiven them.

It is a gift you need to give yourself. Imagine a huge weight or a stone being lifted off your shoulders.

You feel so much lighter, freer! So do your heart a favor...

Happy Heart Day !!!

Yes, forgiveness can take years. Just like me i thought i had forgiven and then all those rush memories came crashing. But, he knows i will always love him. It's not only good for the heart but the total health of ones body. Thanks for sharing this wonderful piece. Happy Valentines day

Back Slash, hey there!

Forgiveness is not easy to give to others when were wronged, it`s hard but something we must do....while I agree with the above friends, it takes time to heal. If we want God to forgive us then we must forgive others too

Take care and thanks for your visit, Happy heart`s day! Grace
