i don't know I came across this picture while browsing in the net and it brings back memories from my childhood. Looking at it I can’t help but smile and feel sad at the same time thinking how many of today still engage themselves in this kind of games which brought so much joy and happiness to our young lives, probably none for they are either glued on the front of a television or a computer monitor busy building and expanding their virtual world populated with virtual friends they may or may not know/meet/see in real life. I wonder then what kind of relationship they will cherish and develop later in life if they do not learn and experience the warmth of real friendship, a hug or even a fight done face to face in real time. What sort of person they would fall in love with and values they will impart to their offspring, dreams they would try to achieve and motivation to power their ambitions. But then again, they are born in this generation where plastic/synthetic lives are more desirable and often prefer by majority even by those who came from another era and have known different times where real people and feelings still are fashionable. of today don’t know any better. It is up to us adults to orient and stir them towards another direction but easier said than done for grown ups are busy earning a living to sustain their make believe existence. Virtual reality if you prefer. Where everything is possible, you only need access to electricity a computer and a monitor to have tons of friends to like or dislike. One doesn’t even need to converse properly or have skills to do it all one has to do is push some button to let the whole world know ones preference or if one is sad mad happy or rolling on the floor laughing out loud. I watch programs and hear others talking about going back to the basic and they go on to build huge houses to escape to the country armed with their computers ipads and iphones and continue what they were doing before picking up where they left off only in another settings. I guess back to the basic is an overrated idea/and has another meaning for some people. only dead fish go with the flow ~ JolieLaide |

When I was a kid I wanted to be a cop. God knows I have enough cop instinct and cop (black) humour to sustain the image. But I don’t want to be just a cop. I prefer Bruce Willis kind of cop Die Hard style. Or at least Mulder and Scully kind of cops (I know they are FBI agents) That was after I dream to be a dressmaker a nun a movie/theatre director/producer/actor and field journalist. But not before I fantasize to be a pirate (Sinbad) a lieutenant in the army capturing a dishy leader of the NPA (or being captured) and tortur!ng him or a fearless NPA leader meeting a gorgeous army lieutenant high up in the mountains. only dead fish go with the flow ~ JolieLaide

it is always preferable to find a middle ground amidst this chaos and technology enhance existence especially for the children to learn the right balance between wants and needs and to hold onto the right morals and values which they can bring with them to impart to the future generation there are lots of good tradition and culture that are in the brink of extinctions due to our carelessness i hope we can save some of them progress is good when it doesn't ruin un-replaceable heritage and customs and destroy what is best in people good to know that your kids are having real friends they can play and share things with only dead fish go with the flow ~ JolieLaide

and now i understand why most (not all) privilege children are lacking of empathy compassion warmth and grow up to be self centered egoistic spoiled adults who thinks they are above the rest can u enlighten us to why the parents of these kids don't allow them to play these games? too demeaning? have to move around their own circle? now, what kind of values is that? i think kids back home who are poor are watching tv by their wealthy neighbours through open windows, doors or gates and spending their pocket money sitting in internet cafes instead of playing games i wonder what kind of games those rich parents allow their children to play only dead fish go with the flow ~ JolieLaide

it hurts to hear discrimination being use in that context it is bad enough we are being discriminated around the world in most places because of skin colour and ignorance (of who we are and what we can)but it is most painful when it hits closer to home being look down by another race is one thing but being discriminated by your own kind is another thanks for the confirmation only dead fish go with the flow ~ JolieLaide

Great picture Bebz. I too played all of the above. I was very good in chinese garter too and I run a lot, I often outwin my friends...maybe I got trained by the neighbor`s dog, too afraid of their barking At night when fullmoon, me and my friends gather outside and make "tsika", and at the end, we play hide and seek. My children knows patintero and sungka. During summer they play outdoor or go swimming but when cold days come, no choice but to stay at home and that`s the time they play online games but mostly with their real friends in school.

i find it wonderful that you introduced some of our culture to your children and keeping them in touch with reality and at the same time allowing them to be the kids of this generation without losing the necessary and ever so important life's morals and values which is a very strong foundation they needed later on in life to be complete well rounded adults only dead fish go with the flow ~ JolieLaide

jackstones holens yoyo and trumpo... are they still fashionable? how about sipa bahay-bahayan teks and so many many more... i wonder if children back there still playing these games... Kids still play sipa, yoyo, jackstones, holen, bahay bahayan. A few of those games Pinoy play with are similar or the same tht western kids play in school such as hopscotch, role playing, playing with tires etc. Children now have a wider choice of things to play with including computer games. In a way it's good that their choice of games have widened, but they tend to play less outside, especially here in the U.K because of traffic and lack of safe place to play and fear of strangers and the cold weather discourages children to go outside and maybe laziness too. Lucky enough I got to play traditional games and even luckier that I'd met friends who were half Filipinos and owned many other toys such as roller blades, Nintendo, lego, Barbie etc.
