Psychology is the study of human mind and behavior.
What is the psychology of love? It must be the study of how humans get attracted to and attach to one another.
There is a school of thought that says that you will be attracted to one who is most like your opposite-gender parent, especially those with the same flaws. A daughter of a degenerate gambler will fall in love with a boy who also likes to gamble. The theory is that as a child she could never “fix” her father, but as an adult, she feels she can “control” her partner.
You can check out this theory. If you are female, what was the biggest flaw of your dad? The theory says you will tend to fall in love with a boy who has that same flaw.
The theory explains why the bad boys (read: “playboys”) get the girls, if there are enough playboy dads around. When a girl says she wants honesty, but her dad has several mistresses, watch out. She likely says one thing but will do something else. It’s a tough conclusion: a straight honest guy stands only a little chance of getting loved.
In a double-standard society, most mothers are “straight” but too protective. That means few sons will fall for girls with loose morals. They will seek out protective mother hens, and try to make them less “motherly.” For a girl, being protective is a great attractor of boys.
But the resulting relationships are at least laden with challenges. Most involve a playboy and a protective mother hen. The boy will tend to work hard to cut the proverbial apron strings, until the protective girl sees the light. The girl tends to work hard to keep the playboy from “straying,” until he gives up! If they don’t succeed, the game goes on with the next generation. And so on..

hmmm.. so are you saying that i (guilty of being protective) should refrain from doing so with my daughter in order for her to not fall prey to "bad" boys? so what should a mother who loves & cares for her daughter do then pray tell, nicolo!

TO SENSE: NO. NOT QUITE. YOUR DAUGHTER WILL PICK UP AFTER YOU, AND THAT'S COOL. BUT SHE WILL FALL FOR THE JAMES DEAN TYPES IF HER FATHER WERE THAT TYPE TOO..
IF YOU HAD SUCCEEDED IN "FIXING" HER DAD, SHE WOULD BE ATTRACTED TO THE MORE NORMAL TYPE OF BOY..
THIS IS, OF COURSE, AMATEUR PSYCH... CHEERS!

MAYBE THE TRICK IS NOT TO FALL INTO THE TRAP OF TRYING TO "FIX" ANOTHER... EASIER SAID THAN DONE, SINCE WE ARE ALL A PRODUCT OF OUR CHILDHOODS.
WHEN YOU NEED PERSPECTIVE, YOU CAN ALWAYS WATCH OLD JAMES DEAN MOVIES..

Very interesting theory ,there's always an exception I guess cause this daughter of an alcoholic that I know made sure that she will marry a guy who does not drink at all, they're still together but it's the girl who drinks not the guy. ,I therefore believe that parent's flaws maybe genetics and can be passed on from generation to generation.

TO BDAY: YEP, YEP, YEP. THEORIES ARE JUST THAT. ESPECIALLY THOSE FROM PSYCHOLOGY, SOCIOLOGY, ECONOMICS, ETC. AFTER ALL, HUMANS ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE FREE WILL, SO INDIVIDUAL EFFORT IS UNPREDICTABLE..
BUT THE DAUGHTER YOU WROTE OF SEEMS TO HAVE A SAVIOR COMPLEX. SHE TOOK ON THE SINS OF HER DAD BY DRINKING.. IF SHE'S LUCKY, THE GUY WILL STAND BY HER, JUST LIKE IN THE NOTEBOOK MOVIE.
CHEERS!
