These two concepts are two sides of the same coin: fidelity. Birds, being faithful, do it but not the rest of the animal kingdom. As to humans, well, it depends. There is one stark view that is controversial. Monogamy is for losers. Yes. Winners "cheat." Generally, we compete to find the "best" mate -- the prettier the better, the abler the better, the more sensitive the better. But what to do about those less then pretty, less than able, less than sensitive? Should they be left out of the race? Monogamy allows them in. Once the "best" have paired off, the "next best" get to stand in line. What is so good about that? But the strong, handsome, or pretty can get away with cheating. So they do it, unless restrained by "conscience." Something to think about when someone "settles" for you. He/she didn't get "the one" and now, you're "IT"... |

very true... "to settle" is a cruel phrase in the realm of love but then beggars can't be choosers, what a cruel world!! wahhhhhhhh
