He Makes Me Feel So Proud!

Father's Day is over (Shall I say, Thank God!)? I've raised my only "almost" all by myself. He was very young and tender when his Dad and I separated ways. He was devastated, he felt different from the rest, and as he became a , he developed low self-esteem, thinking he didn't have a "father figure" unlike his other friends whose families were intact. He became too difficult to handle that his grandma Philippines (that's how he calls my Mom who helped me raise him while I work in the USA) begged me to petition him earlier than planned. I was so scared to bring him to New York City for fear of him getting involved in street gangs. Heck! little did I know that back in Cebu City, he was already a member of a notorious fraternity. To make the story short, I decided to relocate in Texas where both him and I tried to rebuild our lives as mother and . We are the "family", just him and I. I had my worst nightmares being with a rebellious , but I did not give up on him. I never got tired of explaining to him that having a complete family is never a requirement for an individual to succeed. He didn't have to look far for an example. I was right in front of him, the living testimony, that Yes! it can be done. He finished Nursing in 2007 and worked as an RN until May 3, 2010, when he decided to fly and see the world. He applied online at the Emirates Airlines. Out of the 2,000+ applicants, he was one of the 8 successful ones interviewed in Houston. He was ambivalent because he had to leave his GF of more than 3 years behind. But he made it! He's been to more than 50 countries already. In less than 2 years, he was promoted to Business Class, from being Economy FS/FA. Being a Nurse, he received several certificates of appreciation each time there was a medical flight diversion. Just two weeks ago, after another rigid training, he became an SFS (Senior Flight Steward), the youngest to assume that supervisory position in years. As a single mother who only dreamt that her only can stand on his own two feet someday, his achievement is more than what I asked for..and I thank God greatly for all His blessings...Mark, my unico hijo is now self-made!

Hm, that looks like e colosseum in Italy in the background there...need to revisit that again. Anyway...

As a single parent as well, I understand where you are coming from. I think when we see our kids make it on their own is one of the prouder moments we can have. It looks like you have good reason to be proud.

Now the question begs to be asked - kelan magkaroon ang apo hm?

My will is unbreakable. Simply put, I cannot be broken - Enrique

Enrique, Yeah, indeed, that's the place. He was with the Pope the other day.. Re: the apo? I don't think it's gonna be sooner or later... He is enjoying all the luxuries of traveling, staying in 5 star hotels and shopping, clubbing, and the life in Dubai, as well as the life of being single and just "hit and run"

Thanks, Jane...His first flight as SFS was last June 6 in Prague, Czech Republic...He is a sweet son, and now he is more mature thinking and just laughs off his past experiences. The so called "friends" and those who belittled and bullied him are still undergrads and are non-achievers...their parents still work double jobs just to pay for their college education that seemingly going nowhere..

And you are right, Rikki.. After all, he was my son's Dad...we had great times together as well, and that stays in our memories...He will always be a Daddy to Mark, no matter what, even though we're not together..Things do happen. Yes, my son is also proud of me,, after all the struggles we've been through..It's part of his maturity..Take care!

ELZ,

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!! Its just appropriate for you, raising Mark - single handedly..and successful at that. Its no small feat since he started wrong with the notorious friends. All your making up and the reminders that helped shape who's HE now - hats off to you for being the best parent Mark can have.

Congratulations to both of you..Bet he wont make it up there without your guidance and love. Kudos..

Thank you very much Thet! It does make me cry thinking how we struggled..and I still remember when we were just "starting over", he told me off my face: " Mom, I love you, but I love grandma more.", it's because no matter how much I called him and visited him back in the Philippines, it cannot be denied that he was with my Mom during his "growing pains"..., but life is such that I did not have much of a choice...But he now understands well...

Elz, the honor that your son receives is a tribute to your own honor. Kudos to you for raising a son you are proud of. It's a privilege for me to be your acquaintance.

Hahahahahahha! PAM, first of all, you are still RIGHT...His middle name (that is, here in the USA, they call the second name the middle name) is Venson as in Mark Venson De Guzman..But he shortened it to ENZO to make it sound cooler... And thank you too, PAM for the positive and kind words...He is independent now...and I like to be his "dependent".. I'd like to retire before I reach 55...nyahahahahahahaha!

Thank you so much Bert! He actually fulfilled my failed dream... I was the one who finished Tourism and Hotel and Restaurant Management (my first degree before becoming a Nurse), but you know I barely make it to 5'2", so no can do... Thanks for being my acquaintance too.. I'll see you sometime soon or next year, or whenever you tie the knot whichever comes first,,
