...........It's Only A Virtual Visit..........

'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the house,
Everybody was online and clicking their mouse.
I hadn't finished shopping, but I didn't care
The new Netscape two-point-oh-beta was here.

The were supposed to be snug in their beds,
But the visions of JPEGs danced in their heads.
Mamma on her PC and I on my Mac
Were off in our own worlds of IRC chat.

When down in the den there arose such a clatter,
We all ran downstairs and said, "What's the matter?"
"Outrageous!" cried old Uncle Nick with great glee
"Look at this - I've got Rudolph on C U See Me!"

As my wife started rubbing her wondering eyes,
I was waving at the camera, saying "Yo Rudy - Hi!"
More rapid than eagles did his image refresh;
As I tried to lean on the table, and knocked over the Creche.

The twirled their fingers aside of their noggins,
And ran back off to their room to log in.
To the top of the stairs, to the end of the hall,
We dashed away, dashed away, dashed away all!

To Eudora and Archie, Yahoo!, and Open Text...
Metacrawler and Lycos, and Gopher and Fetch.
But we kept hearing Nick's laugh ... in the flickering light-
"Java Applets for all - and to all a good night."
