Do You Know What To Do???????

Something very disturbing was brought to my attention today. As some of you know, I'm working at a school here in China, its a good school except for one thing. I was talking to my students about the earthquake that happened on Monday and I just sort of said to them, you all know what to do if an earthquake ever happens here, right? Well, to my surprise, they didn't, they had no idea at all on what they should do. I'm not sure about the schools in the Philippines, but in Canada, all students in every school are shown and taught what to do if an earthquake should ever happen. In fact, they have drills once a week, so that the children don't forget what to do. Why they don't do this in China, I really don't know. I truly hope that everybody who reads this blog does know what to do. God Bless

i dont know no if they still do.
i dont even know if they have fire drills?
we used to when i was in school but not a regular thing.
all i can say is that in government offices, there is none.

as what tinidor said dad, most schools (especially private ones) in the philippines have earthquake and fire drills so that the students will know what to do in case such things happen.

yeah i'm glad you did too Jane.......its hard to believe that any school anywhere, would not teach the kids what to do if anything like that ever happen........yeah I would do exactly that Jane, if they don't have anything in place, suggest to them that maybe they should.....it probably wouldn't hurt if you even volunteered your time to teach them

Chinas' school building collapsed in a matter of seconds so whatever the kids learned about earthquake safe measures, will it save them? will they be able to run fast outside the building? The building is under investigation as per CNN news. That could be similar case here but I hope and God forbid things like this won't happen again.Lesson (learned I hope.)Government authorities for building should be doing their job.

yup, I couldn't agree with you more Joy....I'm living here in China now and if people saw how some of these buildings are built, they'd wonder how in the world can the government even allow these buildings to pass building regulations, especially when it comes to schools and other education institutions, its dreadful......thanks for bringing all this information to everybody's attention, I appreciate it

Hello Teach,

Do you know that school here in the Philippines got only one bathroom sometimes no water too for millions of kids? Some can't control and wet their pants with long lines of kids waiting their turn to use the loo.Is China much better? Another one is, in one classroom there are even 120 children...China is better? hmmmm tell me more about China schooling. The school is located in Payatas, Quezon City where the smokey mountain (garbage dumpsite turned mountain)

Where are the taxes money goes in these 3rd world countries. A real sad story.
