A Kiss Goodnight To think I almost said no, That I did not want to go, Fearing what might be revealed Embracing my lonely heart’s shield. Then you turned and faced me, Led to hours of relaxed conversing. Reluctant to have the evening end, Could this be more than just a friend? The time has come to say goodnight, I’m not ready for a kiss tonight. I waited two days, saw you again, Can’t wait to tell you how happy I am. This time at your place we meet, Far side of your couch is my seat. My heart beating deeply like thunder, All these emotions making me wonder. Moving too fast is my mind’s fear, Am I too forward for even being here? The time has come to say goodnight, Again there is no kiss tonight. Two more lonely nights go by, Now a date at my house we try. Rushing to clean this horrible mess, Hoping you won’t think of me any less. I sit next to you tense and nervous, You ask to hold my hand, feels so marvelous. We take a midnight stroll through town, Am I ready to let this shield come down? The time has come to say goodnight, It’s his turn to say no kiss tonight. Again two nights creep at a snail’s pace, Anxious I am to hold your hand, see your face. Looking deep into the green depths of you eyes, My heard rejoices at discovering no lies. You tell me honest what’s on your mind, No objection of what’s to come can I find.
