MY IDENTITY

Who are you?

I have been encountering this question wherever I go and whenever I meet group of people. The question is asked because of my ability to speak several dialects specially those that are considered as the major dialects here in Mindanao.Often, the capacity to speak a dialect serves as the major factor that people might use in their desire to assess your being.

Who I am?

By blood, I am a product of mixed bloods shared by 50% Ilocano (mom) and 50% Ilonggo (dad). I grew up in Mindanao and since we live in an Ilonggo community mom assimilated well with the ways of the community except for our food orientation. We do the veggies filled diet of Ilocano in our home.Thats my lineage...

I am a half Ilocano and half Ilonggo by blood and by culture.

I can speak the two dialects with the fluency of a native speaker and some other like Maguindanao, Cebuano and Kapampangan...

I learned these things because of the diversity of life here in Mindanao.

Blue,

Tnx...I have to learn these dialects in order to communicate with my friends and relatives here...If I visit my relatives in my mother side they all speak ilocano and my father's ilonggo. In school most particularly, in college cebuano and in our dormitory several others...I learned Muslim when I served the remote public school where very few parents can speak and understand Filipino.. Masaya kasi I can use my knowledge all the time lalo na kung makikipagtawaran sa palengke

Happy weekend too sis
