Janey,

Learned from mistakes..I take this as true to driving a car, can improve and correct maneuvers, skills..But when it comes to real life - real lessons can't be taken in one stride seriously, the process is never ending. Still, in the end - we'll still take chances and mistake's a part of it.

Janey, it's always scary the first time. Good for you! you have a NAVIGATOR (although, it can be a disadvantage too, coz at times, they make you more nervous.. ) ...My Mom was so frantic when I started driving in New York City for the first time in my life, with nobody. I bought my first car, the day AFTER I passed my driving test...lolz..With all the byways and highways, what and what not in the Big Apple, what with all the road ragers...I made it alright, but I developed ulcers for the first 6 months of driving... but now, I can drive anywhere!....

Just call me ELZ

Janey,

Congratulations!!! I was afraid driving far to the cemetary where they honor the folks that died last month. I barely got there and kinda hilly. It was the same place we went hiking at one time. Lost in getting there went to and Eglesia Church. Finally got there and parked far and walked. Barely made it to the mass late. But, heard all the names including my mom. The place is so serene and tranquil and so beautiful up on the hill and there was a lake there too...

Greatest feelings in the world when two souls profess a love for each other...

Which one? Who'll live? Him, the bf or the proper instructor??

I'm relieved we both have someone calm to keep us company beside us. You've Ate L and I've got bf.

Anybody else as you know, for instance, some men have hardly have any patience. I've heard the countless stories of dads losing their tempers and making their son and daughter walk because they couldn't teach them to drive any more. They could no longer hack it.

As for swearing and shouting. I've cut out swearing since my ex isn't around. He'd swear a lot and I'd pick up the habit. Nowadays I hardly do it, I try not to let it slip often, especially in front of the kids. I'd be in trouble. At home, don't want to set a bad example since they already curse and think it's ok to be cheeky to each other.

I haven't shouted or sworn yet at the driving instructor, but he might do it instead. But really he shouldn't coz he gets paid to tolerate his clients. He's the cheapest out of most of instructors in the area and not bad so far. Time will tell.

You too be safe in your journeys. How's your driving going anyhow? Did you back to manual or are you sticking to automatic?

Very well said is Theta thanks. There's usually room for manoeuvring and room for progress is never ending.

Hopefully I'll pick up the skill for that's one reason I'm doing it, apart from being more flexible to travel to complete my duties to pick up or go to homes of clients for my second job.

Unfortunately Miss Elz I need my navigator. Gotta have a proper driving instructor to get lessons, whether or not I get extra lessons to practise with someone else I know. It's the only way to pass the practical driving test.

The more practice the driver has with a qualified driver that they know, the fewer lessons they'll need usually with the proper instructor. Saves money.

Geezz wouldn't want to have been in your shoes driving in the sleepless city of NYC. Seemed to be hardly any driver gives way over there and it's chaotic and frantic. Good to be in a smaller town, quieter.

Kudos to you for driving in a major city with a multitude of lanes, traffic lights, crowds, highways... You'd have to be bold with a strong backbone and guts to make it through.

In your case what doesn't kill you, made you stronger and braver. In my case, psoriasis emerge.

Cheers Joseph. Will you try to drive in the Philippines?

I don't mind being dependent on public transport as it's convenient enough from where I live and I could walk anywhere for 2 hours in most weather conditions.
There's enough connection to most places compared to the surrounding little villages. Only thing is it doesn't get me everywhere and car is an expensive commodity and not good for the environment.

So far, I've been told to go down to lower gears for going downhill and rev more when going uphill. Have to learn this since I live down a hill. For a year if and when I pass I'll be restricted to drive 45 mph, so 4th or 3rd gear would be ideal.

That would indeed be the lazy way out. Could do it after passing the driving test.

The standard is you gotta learn to use manual gears, unless one is a special case.

The only automatic I can do for the time being is to think less and react with more instinct. You know the kind that you might do something without even realising you've done it. Auto-mode or sometimes zombie mode.

Over in the U.K. there are more speedy male drivers and there are also maniac women drivers. Some drivers who have passed their test many years ago can't seem to drive as safely as they should. Perhaps they need a refresher course. Seasonal drivers can break their gearbox.

There's driving lessons, test day for the actual practical driving exam and car to pay for. Hopefully pass it the first time like my theory test to save money. Gotta pass the practical test within 2 years of passing the theory.

After passing there's maintenance test, insurance and car tax to pay and possible fines for breaking any motoring law like speeding could be caught in speed camera.

In the Philippines, the rules and regulations for cars and driving seem more lax in comparison and public transport is so regular that there's no urgency to own a car, unless for business or work purposes.

Hahaha not the bf though huh?? Just kidding. Bf isn't that confident with me using his car on the road coz of his weak clutch, so I can only drive his on an empty car park. Unlike the instructor, he hasn't got his car modified with a clutch and brake on his side of the car to take over me when I make mistakes. We might die sooner from almost many car crashes I've created. It was terrifying.

I don't blame ya. Many first time drivers experience an intense fear of driving. Two friends who are brothers won't drive even though they've been paid to have driving lessons. The older brother crashed a car during one lesson into a showroom, which has traumatised him for life. I doubt he'd ever try going back to learning to drive again.

My ex also crashed into a bridge during a lesson and it took him years to go back learning and he passed about 2 years ago.

My gal friends failed the first few times in theory and practical, but passed their both tests eventually.

From their experience, it gives me a tiny confidence that I could achieve it too with God's help. Maybe after at least 20 or more lessons. Less lessons would be ideal as it's cheaper. On average 40 lessons is needed for complete beginners about 20 or less for experienced drivers.

Thanks 'te. Maybe congrats is too soon. More good luck like TaJane said. Sorry for the delay. Didn't see your post sooner.

Well done 'te for trying and making it all the way up. I don't doubt it's scary, especially uphill. At least you got your reward of a beautiful view.

Now that I've experienced being on the road I empathised with you even more.

I said to Ate L, she was very good with you and a very patient person. Even when she almost lost it, she didn't completely lose her will.

You know I felt like you the other day. I felt like giving up driving on the road. It's tiring and hard to master.

I do open my own door and open his door when his hands are full.

Nah I haven't got to stage of imagining myself as race car driver. More like a deer in the headlight.

Have you noticed much difference between your cars and between automatic and manual? Do you change your shoes for driving?

You know the slightest difference in the distance between the pedals and the feedback from the car makes me do silly mistakes. For instance, bf has his accelerator pedal further away from the other pedals and it's so light that the tiniest movement makes me go fast.

Then the other day, I didn't notice I'd my foot on the accelerator at the same time as clutch until I heard it when I was turning into another road in the middle of traffic. Embarrassing and nerve-wracking. I'm going to experiment and change into another trainers/rubber shoes to see if I can sense the pedals more.

I don't mind the bf at all. You're right he's worried about us in the car with me driving. I'd rather he taught me coz he's calmer than the instructor. The instructor is stricter. But I've to go with the instructor anyway whether I like it or not because he's supposed to give expert advice.

I dunno. I think I come close to worst learners ever. Like my Chinese friend said today about herself when she was driving, which I can relate to whenever the instructor keeps repeating his commands. The instructor probably thinks it's like talking to a brick wall to me each time, yet I'm trying to remember what he's saying and concentrating what I'm supposed to be doing. Again she's the third female I know who had to do it twice to past the test. I'm relieved, I'm not alone on getting a hard time with the instructor.

That's a very scary experience for you and your cousin. You're so lucky to get away with no major injuries and your Pops was there to make sure you're safe next time. I don't doubt you miss your Pop's voice. You're lucky to have him. It reminds me of my bf's dad and his grandpa. They were on a terrible car crash this year. Thank God, he was looking out for them both and they've minor knocks and bruises. Not their time yet. They could've died.

Well being quiet just means you get a chance to breath, inhale and exhale, a time for rest and to calm down.

I live through it the second time on the road with less traffic. Was a little better and got up to 4th gear. So thankful I found the courage to do it and happy I went to do it reluctantly and hardly any problems the second time on the road. Still need to perfect steering and braking.

Will have to learn a few more new things like reverse parking, u-turn, 3 and 2 point turn. Many things not to look forward to.

Bf offered to give me a lift to work to make up time for not seeing me tomorrow. I said I've to drive myself anyway to work with the instructor.

It's better you get the angst out of your chest and curse at anything. Just careful they don't hear it. They might make it more difficult for you, walking slower and sexier or slug like. Then the drivers might just brake more randomly and pee you off.

Sometimes I accidentally knock off the lights or wipers when I try to signal left or right on the instructor's car. Like a clutz driver.

I remember that's why I thought of changing shoes. You got me thinking about barefoot driving like Flinstones. A thinner rubber shoes was better for driving.

That's why it's good to have more hours of work to save money for the costly needs of the car and every other house bills.
