The photo includes my favourite foods from fajitas with mince and stir fry veg with salsa sauce (my version is thinly sliced minute steak with pepper sauce and stir fried veg), fish, leche flan, savoury rice (I add turmeric and saffron sometimes on my rice for Indian curry), chicken and vegetable (leeks, pulses etc) soup with garlic bread, roast meat, vegetables like mashed carrots and parsnips, brussel sprouts (I prefer mushy ones from frozen and prefers raw and fresh, I only have to wash and peel any unsightly bits to serve it as part of his Christmas dinner), aubergines, fruits like strawberries (mom makes regularly for church every first week of the month, her strawberry jam and fresh cream sponge with almond flakes).

The odd one out is the Christmas pud. Someone else likes it in epep.

I'm mom's biggest fan of her homemade cooking. She wasn't brought up with traditional cooking because lola isn't knowledgeable and experienced in cooking, so mom is experimentalist and mostly tsamba tsamba, but I enjoy most of it. The siblings prefer sweet stuff and deserts. Hard to feed them savoury foods.

Those are homegrown in someone else's farm because they are bigger. Sometimes we use the ones at home, but sometimes they're smaller and bitter.

Maybe you can do what P did. Cut a big water container drum (preferably with a flat bottom) cut it in half and turn the top half upside down to put soil in and it's handy to keep the bottom half to filter the water at the bottom. Some of P's herbs are also having trouble growing, but she thinks it's because she moved it in a shadier area.

If possible or you've extra money you can invest on pro grow soil conditioner or top quality soil to use because most people do here where I live to grow more trees, veg and fruits more successfully.

Dry carabao dung is good in the Philippines. Here we use our food leftovers and teabags. To be safe, it is better to buy a compost container to put the leftovers in to prevent pest infestation, which our house is probably attracting.

I didn't I swear Ate Aloofa.

Your Christmas pudding is there on the bottom left. It might be unrecognizable when it's upside down. The creams are on the side with fresh cherries.

I forgot to mention the fresh cherries. I don't like the glazed types.

So how do you make your cheesecake sis? Is it chilled or cooked like New York cheesecake?

Mom made hers with very thick biscuit base and keep it in the fridge. I told my sis to make her with jelly instead of strawberry jam coz it's too sweet.

Same here sis May.

I've several cookbooks on Nigella Lawson, Jamie Oliver, Pinoy cookbooks and Ken Hom's Thai food. I pick recipes which I can get the ingredients. Sometimes I get put off by posh ingredients because they're too expensive and I don't really like them.

May I be cheeky and be the tasting judge for your cheesecake?

mmmm I love adobo. Didn't realise there was so much variation on it. The Bisayan adobo some add garlic, paprika, salted black beans and bay leaf. Wait for this unusual variation...... cheese and mayo on adobo. Who would have thought?

WOW sounds great Miss Elz. Is it a secret recipe then?

Sadly lola doesn't have any secret recipes to pass on to us, but granny had a recipe book. I'm not sure who has gran's book.

The strawberry sponge is very sweet too for my liking, but it isn't as rich as the Christmas pud, but it suits the sweet tooth in my family aside from mom and I.

I only eat Christmas cake and pudding to be polite. I ask for a very small portion, so I don't waste it because there's a lot of work put into it, mixing in the fruit ingredients.

Fruity sweet. Could make you trifle. Quite easy to make.

Layers are jelly with sponge biscuit, custard and fruits and cream on top. You can have as many layers of it as you like topped with fresh fruits and flakes of nuts.

P made some tropical fruit salad with grated coconut I think and kaong and nata de coco.

That would be interesting if you did.

There was an episode in the U.S sitcom Friends when Rachel attempted to make British foods to impress Ross, but she mistakenly made half of her dessert of English trifle and shepherd's/cottage pie. She mixed up the recipes.

Charlie you made me miss my gran's applie pie. The only thing I've to change about hers is to cut the amount of sugar on it.

Janey,

Having 'sweet tooth', can I go straight to the dessert section?

Fellow Pinays joked about that.

You may pass by to stick to your diet.

Sure, you may have the rest of mine as I find it hard to finish.

I'm not going to say I'm expert sis Jean, but I find it easy to make too and I stick to simple dishes to cook as long as it's tasty.

Hope you'd more than coffee today!
