Top Movies - What's yours?

Hundreds, even thousands of movies are made yearly
with the hopes of leaving a legacy.
However, only the best of the best
leave an imprint into the history of films.

If you could have watched only a few movies in your entire life,
what would it be? And what made it stand out above the rest?

(If you can't think of 5, then 4 or 3 or 2 or 1)

Mine is:
1) AZUMI Death or Love (Aya Ueto) -
Take this film with a grain of salt.
It is a fun, exciting,
and a very long and enjoyable watch.
It is well worth the time spent.
The cinematography and acting are great.
You will be pleasantly delighted.
-(My daughter considered this film as her favorite)-

2) REMEMBER THE TITANS (Denzel Washington) -
a very moving and powerful true-to-life story...
drives home the point that if we could only see past
our differences and work harmoniously together,
then we can really achieve great things.
This movie, can still bring tears to my eyes
no matter how many times I watch it.

Life is Beautiful (Roberto Benigni) -
Everyone deserves a good laugh and a good cry in one sitting.
It's one of the few movies that manages to pull off
having an ending that's sad and happy both at the same time.

having an ending that's sad and happy both at the same time.

The film's first half is indisputably enjoyable.
Revolving around the courtship of an aristocratic lady
nicknamed the Principessa by Benigni's Guido,
it makes a refreshing, elegantly hilarious love story.
Somewhat ironically, the film's wittiest
and most accurate commentary on fascism
and religious oppression is contained here,
rather than in the concentration camp setting.
Benigni's comedy here becomes a tool for side-splitting
yet razor-sharp criticism, and this first section
powerfully establishes the reality of everyday life
disrupted by the war.

Schindler's List (Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley)
- shows the depths of man's cruelty
but also shows his bravery and courage.
Also shows that heroes are not perfect people,
but imperfect ones who just decide to do the right thing
at a given moment in time.

Beyond the Border...it portrays the career, love and honor to ones' family and work.

Love the "Pay it Forward" as well, the title says it all.

I can't think of a movie that's out there. But, the most that always touch the deepest of my soul is "na aalala mo kaya". Based on true stories written in. Every movie every week just can't stop crying. It shows the depth of love and how ones conquer or succumbed to the tragedy. Then resurrects again changed because they have forgiven the people that made their life unbearable...

Yin Yang Master II directed by Yojiro Takita,The Road Home directed by Zhang Yimou, show the authentic Japanese and Chinese culture and tradition founded on their religious beliefs. Some of the good titles in my list; The Emperor's Club, Freedom Writers, Dangerous Mind, Monalisa Smile and the latest, The Reader. They all have one thing in common---the importance of education. Most of all, Lawrence of Arabia.

Voted as the Best Picture of 1993,
every aspect of this film is first rate.
John Williams' music is among the best he has ever done,
the acting is riveting and the black and white
cinematography is superb.
Director Steven Spielberg surpassed his usual standard
of excellence with this marvelous film.

Beyond Borders described as a 'thrilling romantic adventure'.

Pay it Forward is a thought-provoking movie
that definitely could've achieved loftier
and mightier goals if it were a bit more rigourous.
As it stands, it'll warm the cockles of peoples' hearts.

pretty woman..
Sometimes love is discovered in the most unorthodox of places.
For obvious reasons,
this is not your typical version of the Cinderella story,
but a celebration of that one thing in life most of us
truly want to say we have felt at one time or another,
or continue to look for...love.

Wuthering Heights..
Even though this adaptation is not true to the novel
(only goes half way through the book)
and changes the period in which the story takes place,
I think it is a film that I will always love to watch.

Ultimately, the major purpose of the film is
to cultivate compassion
for those suffering injustices in Africa.
May the people of America not forget Africa,
and may who are Africans not forget God.
The only hope for Africa is
to turn back to God in repentance and faith,

FORREST GUMP had an emotional impact for me.
And it always inspire me!
Here's a so-called "retard" that had more smarts, heart,
and soul than many of the so-called
"normal, smart" people around him.
I could watch this a million times,
and it will still make me laugh,
cry, cheer, totally touch, and break my heart!
There are other movies as well,
but this one puts me through such a wide range of feelings!

It's an eye-filling, sumptuously detailed historical epic

claustrophobically crowded arenas of its bygone era.

My all-time favorite has to be Uncommon Valor. It has a lot of traits that I really enjoy:
1. Funny
2. Exciting
3. Suspenseful
4. Sad
5. Portrays what a loving parent would go through for their child
6. Military camaraderie
For those that haven't seen the movie before and intend to watch it in the future, I hope you enjoy it too. It is an oldie, but a goodie.

There are very few war movies that come even close
to the quality of this. Every time I see the flag
in the opening credits I tear up a little bit.
This shows how much the World War 2 generation
gave up for our freedom.
This movie really gives us insight into
what brutality they had to fight through
to gain such a hard fought victory.

Atmospheric and thrilling,
gets the look and feel of war right.
However, the love story seems out of place.
A War story from a different perspective,
felt very authentic to the times

Twilight
Vampires and romance are nothing new,
but Twilight gives them enough of a twist
to make it interesting
and the film delivers enough on that twist
to make it far better
than its outlying plot makes it sound.

The drill sergeant has taught them well.
They need to remember what they learnt because otherwise
"...you would be a dead Marine;
and a Marine cannot die without permission".

Awesome, mindblowing stuff!

    Ever After
is funny, charming and a feast for the eyes,
the perfect appetizer to an evening of home-cooked romance.

Charming Cinderella-like tale boasts stellar cast.

"The Godfather"
that made me wish I had amnesia,
so I could feel the same heart pounding moments
over and over again.

    1. Forrest Gump ( watched it countless of times and know most of the words by heart but i still laugh out loud whenever i watch it.)
    2. Braveheart ( love the accent! and of course the story..)
    3. LOTR ( following cate blanchet)
    4. Charlotte Gray ( still cate blanchet...im a big fan)
    5. Harry Potter ( im a big kid at heart )

Charlotte Gray
it is an honorable and surprisingly gripping one.
The radiant Blanchett makes Charlotte's individual journey
from lovelorn lady to independent woman believable and involving,
and that's ultimately what counts the most.

An intense, schematic, superbly made Vietnam War drama.

The epic gangster film. The ultimate family film.

The Wizard of Oz
The songs and magic are still fresh,
even if it isn't quite knowing enough,
perhaps, for today's young audiences.

The key to The Wizard of Oz is its pure, simple theme:
Dorothy's desire to get back home,
to safety, to comfort,
to family and to love.

...one of the most amazing pieces of celluloid ever produced,
capturing not only the ugliness and ridiculousness of Vietnam,
but exposing the dark heart of man as well.

I will say I am not a fan of Christian romance books or movies.
I have found very few that are any deeper
than your neighborhood mudpuddle and even fewer
with true talent when it comes to the writing or acting.
Belle and the Beast is by no means a feat of cinematic expertise, but for a girl's night, it does make a tear-jerking option.

Who knows, if You do, maybe You'll meet a Beast!
— dancing with the Beast, who,
though hard to look at and sometimes fierce,
was a Prince at heart..
