Cutting Costs...  This year 2011, I am off to a new start in my lifestyle as well. Due to poor economy and less income, I will do as much as I can to save money. I already painted my home interiors by myself to give it a new look ( I saved about one grand ), I will colour my own hair, I'll remove the HBO, TFC/GMA from my DirecTv subscription. I no longer have my landline telephone since I hardly use my minutes on my cellphone. I will dine out only once a month and cook more often, then reheat them or bring them to work to save more money. I will consume less electricity by ironing all clothes at one time, not piece by piece when I need to wear them. I will minimize my travels and limit it to interstate on a off-peak season. I'll shop only when my favorite stores (Macy's) and outlets have a grand sale. I'll find ways and means to save more. Job situation is not as productive and income generating as it used to. Instead of overtime, there have been furloughs and cancelations. So, I'll practice what the old Filipino saying that goes: "Matuto tayong mamaluktot kapag maiksi ang kumot". Anyone can translate that in English?  Just call me ELZ  |

Migz! I'm so glad your face is back... thanks for the translation, and thanks for appreciating my hard work...It's an old house (model 1994) and that's the living room, I started in the kitchen area, up to the common bathroom. If I am to paint the entire house, it will take me more than a month because I do it only when I feel like it on my days off... Just call me ELZ

Jo, most of the furnitures have roller-mover underneath, so you just slide them and have good and proper body mechanics...Otherwise, at my age right now, I'll easily break my back and all the brittle bones I have.. But mind you, don't try it! It's not easy moving heavy furnitures and climb up the ladder to paint..I had a stiff neck at some point and my back ached (like an old lady) Just call me ELZ

you did good on painting... now we know you love yellow from yellow rose to yellow room... every thing looks great... homemade food is always good and healthy... was planning to cut our land line... comcast is so expensive $200 a month for cable,tv and this computer grrrr... plus another 3 cell phone for another 200 for 3 of us... now my son want a phone too ...haysssss too much...but as long we pay everything and eat good food i'm happy as a puppy love is the greatest gift of all

you did good on painting... now we know you love yellow from yellow rose to yellow room... every thing looks great... homemade food is always good and healthy... was planning to cut our land line... comcast is so expensive $200 a month for cable,tv and this computer grrrr... plus another 3 cell phone for another 200 for 3 of us... now my son want a phone too ...haysssss too much...but as long we pay everything and eat good food i'm happy as a puppy The tutty-fruity color combination from Martha Stewart paints made my interiors (kitchen and living room the brightness that somehow helps me deal with occasional depression. And come to think that I have not touched the rooms yet... I have not thought of good colors to start with. The bathrooms are next.. Just call me ELZ

And Jeanny, regarding the cellphones..There are a lot of FAMILY plans with free phones available now, and they are a lot cheaper than what you have now..You just have to pay attention on your usage..Well, if it's unlimited talk and text for the family, then, maybe it'll cost a bit more...But try to search for cheaper deals...I only use DSL for my internet and it's pretty fast for less than $50/mo. and I can have all my rooms (max of 5 computers/laptops) wired up.  Just call me ELZ

you did that all by yourself? that is an accomplishment! maybe if i had time, i could learn to do that too but i'd rather earn and let someone do it for me. i am lucky to keep my job and get a second one to keep up with expenses. you're right though, we all have to tighten belts in this economy because you never know what's next. i was thinking of cutting off the house phone but i only reserve my cell for very important calls re work or family emergency. and i can't touch cable tv or i'll have an insurrection at home. eating out during the weekend is a family thing so i can't cut that. shopping is the only thing that really cuts deep into my earnings so that is what i'll have to minimize coz mom is constantly nagging me about my shopping anyways. i've been remodeling the house floor by floor whenever i have the money to spare but i think it is not a good idea right now that home prices have gone down although the prices in my location are holding up. rentals are up here so maybe i'll take in a single renter for the other apt. if i can get one i can trust. it will be a great help with the mortgage but i'm still thinking about it. i'm not comfortable having a stranger in my home. elz, it is difficult to be head of family but doing it is a joy for me. i am already NOT looking forward to letting go of my two older kids to college and ultimately independence. i now know how you feel about your only son's having his own life away from you. we moms just have to accept our roles in our kid's life -- there is that time to say goodbye. ... only a REAL diamond has flaws.

i go shopping in my closet once and a while amazing how many clothes i forgot i have and because i always bought timeless classic i can still wear them anyway the fashion keeps coming back i check in the shop for trends and find that most of the current fashion i have already in my wardrobe some i update by adding new shoes and accessories save me a lot of cash about renovating...well, i'm doing it for years nursing old homes is my passion only dead fish go with the flow ~ JolieLaide

we also got all 3 BlackBerry phones for free but with 2 years agreement deal... with unlimited calls around US with online so i'm happy about it i can go online anywhere i go 24/7... land line is the one we don't really use...as far as internet i think its only $45 but my loveydove likes to order movie and thats like $4 i think so its all add its better to rent i think plus late payment if he don't return the movie on time lol.. Hey there, Mr. DS! ...Hard times maybe classified and differentiated by others regardless of their status...To someone who probably earns a million a month will find half a million a hard time People start to conserve whatever resources they have in case of a worse scenario to come. Jeanny, you should see my kitchen, it's a combination of orange, lemon and lime with a touch of olive green colors... Elz, Congratulations!!! I barely finished one wall in my room and i gave up. My dad had to finished it. Savings it's scary when electricity is $400 and cell, etc...Greatest feelings in the world when two souls profess a love for each other...

you forgot my niece is graduating for nursing this year? all my savings are in her school but thats why i'm here to try to change my families life... and i almost done... and i thank god for all the blessing Just call me ELZ
